If you rebuild it to last, it's my experience that the money you spend to do it right (if you know what you're doing) and what it cost to buy a rebuilt engine is not worth the time to rebuild. The cost is close. Installation cost is much of the difference.

It isn't hard work. Well except maybe the pulling of the engine and putting it back in without the right tools. It is very meticulous work though. Hundreds of bolts that have to be torqued correctly. Electrical connections. Vacuum hoses, water hoses, etc. Any one small thing you leave out could potentially cause it not to run or worse yet destroy your engine. I find the work fun and rewarding. I think every man should rebuild a engine at least once in their life.

Just buy 1 new bearing, slap it in there and you're done.

Not worth it to repair. Buy a cheap used engine and swap it out entirely. Will more than likely be cheaper and a lot easier than breaking down and rebuilding yours. Anything you open you will have to get new gaskets etc. It adds up to open up the internals.

A $5,000 car? No way, not worth it. The time and effort this takes, you are better off getting a loan to buy a different car and then doing something like Uber to pay it off.

Sarcasm? That's the 160hp previous gen RSX variant if I'm not mistaken...

ETA: nevermind, that would be the K20A3. The K20A is the 221 HP variant from the Type R. Those are hard to come by.

I would think you could swap the motor cheaper then having someone rebuild the original .. I bought a motor from -
LINK /

Was a breeze to install but I had access to a lift .. motor was like $900 to the door

If you are the type of person that doesn't mind wrenching on your stuff it's doable. It actually isn't all that hard it just takes a long time. You have to be kind of meticulous on how you manage all the bolts and nuts you remove. I screw them back into the same hole they came out of once the part is removed if I can. I never have to look for them during reassembly.

You can save a ton of money and know it is done correctly. Set aside 2 days just in case. If you're reasonably able, you can do it in a day no problem.

Buy a low mileage motor on ebay. A factory built motor with low miles will likely last longer than a rebuilt motor.

If I was a mechanic I'd put up a bunch of car repair videos making it look oh so simple then sit back and wait for the frustrated DIYers to bring their cars in.
