One good thing coming from St. George is it’ll essentially free up LSP Troop A to devote resources to proactive patrols. A Troop NOLA style initiative in Baton Rouge would be great.

The current proposal of LSP working alongside BRPD is dumb.

Th best hope for NBR is the Healing Place Dream Center on Winbourne. That’s a fact.

Last summer they held a basketball tournament every other Friday night at a park in 70805 and got police involved to help bridge the relationship between them and the community. After the summer, the police said they saw a 30% decrease in crime for 70805.

Ha! But…
SWB aka Bruce Gin Her- no kids
Michelle Obama aka Big Mike- no kids
Kamala- no kids
Oprah- no kids
Hilary- daughter from another man

So technically only a minority are mamas, and very few are mothers. But 100% of the list is masculine and misandrist.

Where do you plan to buy property near the airport? There isn’t much for sale of any decent size. The airport owns most and what they don’t own I own on the south side and have been developing for years. We put our money where our mouth was and have brought 4 hotels, 5th under construction, medical, ymca etc. Although I dont really consider what we have and are doing as part of nbr, it is and with that being said we have done more for north Baton Rouge than any govt or non profit agency has done in the last 30 yrs.

Yeah unless you can get thousands of people to leave… don’t see how it’ll make a change. There would have to be some sort of massive investment to drive up property taxes to gentrify the area…that ain’t happening anytime soon.

There will obviously be outliers, but for the most part The cycle will repeat itself. Those children in NBR will continue to fall into life of those before them in the area. Products of their environment. Sad stuff truly

Sir, you are a good man. You are not alone and many others have tread those waters.

But, demographics are destiny. San Francisco gets a good amount of deserved opprobrium but it’s lily white and if you had bought a hotel on Divisadero (a black neighborhood in 1990) then today you would park your yacht next to Gordon’s.

No, demographics are destiny in this situation. BUT, I do have some great news. We can blame Sid for everything that has happened in NBR up to this point. I learned that when I voted Democrat.

neighborhood surrounding Redemptorist

Grew up in that area in the 70s and early 80s one street over from Sid. Back yard backed up to Redemptorist Junior High office. Very middle class, blue collar people all around. Used to be a safe neighborhood that we were never afraid to walk or ride our bikes after dark.

I lived on Beech Street in that neighborhood from '78-'80 as a 7-9 year old and it was borderline utopia. Kids my age to play with everywhere. No fear of riding our bikes anywhere. We moved to South BR in '80 so my dad could get closer to his work and so we could have a bigger house, but I still fondly recall the 2 years we spent in that area.

Every now and again I will drive down Beech Street (in the daytime only, mind you) if I'm in the area--usually if I have time to kill if I'm on the way to the airport. It makes me sad. Old run down houses. No kids outside playing, ever. I know that things change over the course of 45 years, but why does it always seem the change is for the worse?

Politicians cannot fix a broken culture.

People need to go back to God in all areas of society.

I understand that. I meant more of increasing economic development and ending blight so that the area is more appealing to more diversity and middle-class folks.

NBR used to be thriving and of course majority white and middle-class

How would you fix NBR or Baker?

Anything done to improve areas like that are met with gentrification and racism cries.

What middle class families would want to have their families live there? There is a reason people flee those areas if they cannot.

So many cities have already done it as I mentioned. Follow their blueprint. Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward, Dallas' Bishop Arts, Houston's Third Ward, NYC's Harlem and Brooklyn, New Orleans' Treme

And yeah some will cry racism and gentrification but eventually they shut up. They don't have the time and money to keep fussing about it. At the end of the capitalism always wins in this world ... many politicians also get paid off to stop their "end displacement" campaigns which is all for more votes b/c they don't really care

Anywhere north of Fla blvd from Sherwood Forest all the way to downtown is bad. It gets worse the closer you get to downtown.

It is crazy to think about, but NBR is actually experiencing Black Flight (if that is even a thing?) as Baker and now Zachary have flipped demographics in the last 30 years and while I lot of that was Katrina driven, you would think the traditional gentrification that follows urban sprawl would've started by now if it were to do so.
