I remember reading this years ago. Pretty fricked up.

Man trapped in his own body

quote:

Martin tells what he remembers from those 12 years. He says he thinks he began to wake up about two years into his coma.

He remembers many things from that time, when everyone around him thought he couldn’t hear them and thought he didn’t know what was going on.

“Everyone was so used to me not being there that they didn’t notice when I began to be present again,” he told National Public Radio.

Stuck in his body, without the ability to move or communicate, he felt doomed.

It was especially bad when the care center would sit patients in front of the television all day, to “watch” children’s shows.

“I cannot even express to you how much I hated Barney,” Martin said.

Sadly, Martin also heard his mother tell him, “I hope you die.”

I thought they were wheeling me around in a Pepsi can and I was in the nurses house and shite. Drugs were unbelievable though after I woke. Didn’t recognize my girlfriend when she walked in. Thought the cast of everybody loves Raymond were in this box on a shelf in the ICU

I was by my grandmothers side for multiple days and i knew her time was coming. I would talk to her and hold her hand everyday.

So finally after all that, one day i went to leave and told her it was ok, she could go. No need to keep suffering. I love you and it’s ok to go now. I will see you later on when it’s my time.

An hour later, i got the call that she was gone.

They know you're there. My mom never wanted me to see her pass away. Spent a few weeks on and off with her. I said my goodbye and she passed the next day. As much as I wanted to be there to support her to the last second I also needed to respect her wish that I don't be there. But yes, even in a coma we knew she could hear and feel.

I had a bunch of injections every day so in my mind strangers were constantly walking up to me and injecting me with random shite. Disconcerting, to say the least.

I also thought the breathing tube was a tusk growing out of my mouth and the I thought the shite attached to my face was one of those medieval torture masks.

And 90% of my dreams were searching for something to drink and never getting it.

My dad was in one for like 30-45 days. When he came out he talked to us about how his hospital room spun around during the day and opened to a courtyard. Said he would get out of bed to go walk around a beautiful garden and asked why we hadn’t been coming to visit him.

Did it go by quickly like a snap of a finger? Something similar to being put under for a surgery? I've been put under a few times and it always amazes me how it seems like a second between falling asleep and waking up and hours or days coulda passed.

When my cousin was 12, she got hit by a car and was in a coma for 45 days. She said she remembers being at the ice cream truck then waking up. (She was getting ice cream on a residential street with her dad and a car was speeding past and tried to go around and clipped her).

I have also heard some people hear and feel everything during their time:

Hell no.

The worst part is that I was in a dream state long enough to commit it all to long-term memory. You really don't want to clearly remember your dreams.

Had a professor in college who was in a coma for a while after being shot. He was clearly traumatized by it, made it sound like he had night terrors the entire time he was in the coma.

It really fricked with my head for a long time. Still does when I think too much about it. And random things like dream sequences in movies make me very uncomfortable.

At the end I thought I was playing some kind of game and it hurt like hell. That fukin tube hurt. I heard the nurse with her southern twang saying MISTER TOM MISTER TOM SQUEEZE MY HAND IF YOU CAN HERE ME MISTER TOM. But I wanted to lose cause I thought the pain would go away if I lost so I played possum and didn’t squeeze. Small shite like that I remember. Also the dreams were trippy as frick

I told my wife to smother me with a pillow after a week if it ever happens again.

Head trauma. Had amnesia for 24 hours. Went to bed, saying "Good night." to my brother; woke up in a hospital bed asking, "What day is it?"

No dreams. Just blank. Cannot remember one thing from the day of the injury.

Funny incident... my brother was scolded by the nurse for letting me get up and take a leak after telling ME, since no relative was in the room, not to go, because they needed a sample. Frick! I was in a coma!
