My car is paid for, but my financially irresponsible sister is paying like $600 a month for something like a Nissan Altima because she was upside-down as frick on her previous trade-ins. It isn't in her DNA to pay off a car or keep a car for more than 3 years.

If she is willing to take some DNA in her regularly, there could be a sucker who helps her pay it off.

I wouldn’t pay $50k for a Ford, and I wouldn’t touch an 84 month loan.

That’s especially true for a Ford product that likely would not be running after 84 months without a substantial overhaul and/or repair bill if it’s actually used as a truck.

I wouldn’t spend more than $30k for a pickup of any kind. I keep nicer vehicles, but to me a pickup is a cheap vehicle that can be driven over land without worrying about scratching up the bed or bumpers...meaning a $50k sticker is out of the question.

The standard V6 regular cab Silverado or F150 are both plenty powerful for half ton truck duties. Both allow you to add taller gearing in the rear axle to boost towing if you need. If you can’t get the job done with that, you may need a 3/4 ton truck.

Nah. Pretty happy with my 15 year old Toyota. It is just a piece of metal to get me around.

My 2011 F150 has been paid off since 2015 and I am going to try and keep it a few more years since I only just broke 100k miles. From time to time I look at new trucks and it pains me to think what I am going to have to pay to get into a new one these days. I thought $400 a month was enough back in 2011 but the prices of half tons now are crazy high

They still make basic trucks.

Ask yourself if you really need the big 4 door cab, the higher level engine, the bigger wheels, leather seats, or 4x4. Do you really need a full sized pickup truck at all? Hell, could you make due with an old beater work truck and keep a well equipped crossover or sedan as a main vehicle, or perhaps get a utility trailer to tow behind a cheaper RAV4 or Equinox in those cases when you need to move an ATV around.

If we are being honest, most people that spend $50k on a truck can make due without them. Many don’t even need a pickup at all.

Why does it matter whether you're paying interest on a car or a home or any other type of asset? Why does the asset matter?

Mine is long paid off but the wife’s Tahoe runs me $900/month. Put 0 down, 1.6% interest 60 months.

No reason to put anything down at that rate.

Some people enjoy nice vehicles, some people don't. Unless you're sacrificing other necessities to pay for your car, I don't see why others should criticize.

To avoid this:

1.6% interest 60 months.
