Hesalite or Sapphire sandwich? Have seen both in person, but it has been a bit since I did. No chance to walk into a store that has Omega where I live, and I'm gathering intel prior to making purchase.

Picking up a MoonSwatch this summer is what has moved me to this. I've never been much of a chronograph person - have had three (Seamaster Pro Planet Ocean chrono - the huge 45.5 mm hunk, IWC 3717 Pilot Chrono silver dial Spitfire version, and IWC 3714 - the Portugieser with creamy white dial and YG hands and markers) and sold them all. Well, I got this MoonSwatch this summer, have worn it daily for a month and decided I needed a real Moonwatch. This watch fits and wears on my wrist as good as anything I've ever had, even my 5-digit Rolex models and Tudor BB 58.

Wondering if there are any owners on here of the current iteration (cal. 3861 from 2021 and later) of either the Hesalite or Sapphire version and would be willing to share thoughts? Don't really care about the price difference. Have seen both in person, and the only thing that gives me pause at all is the polished detail of the small side center links as opposed to the all brushed bracelet on the Hesalite version - I know it is to match the polished applied brand mark on the dial that is unique to the sapphire version - but not sure how long term I would like it. I don't really care about dealing with an acrylic crystal - not afraid of Polywatch and a polishing cloth, but I like the exhibition back on the sapphire and the sapphire is a hair less thick. Almost all of the watches I own have sapphire glass, so I'm used to that look and feel.

Anyways, any thoughts are appreciated.

TLDR Acrylic or Sapphire crystal Speedy Pro from ownership perspective (disclaimer: I realize my iPhone will display accurate time and date with atomic precision).

I don't know if you'll get many people that will be able to tell the difference between brushed and polished. You will be so it's a personal preference if you don't mind polishing that hesalite. I personally minded polishing it and I only buy Sapphire now. I think I still own 1 hesalite watch but don't wear it much. Couldn't you get the dealer to fix the bracelet up however you want it? I took a Superocean once and had the polished bracelet brushed. I liked the look of it better.

I dont own either, but have long thought of pulling the trigger on a Speedy Pro and for me, i have always said id get the Hesalite.. i guess for me it’s just becuase the Hesalite is the real deal Moonwatch, and for whatever reason, the sandwich thing on the sapphire version doesnt really do anything for me - maybe im just not enough of a watch geek to appreciate being able to see the movement through the case back .. So yeah, just one guy’s opinion- biut id go with the Hesalite .

I have it in the Sapphire Sandwich.

I prefer that one due to the scratch resistance and the movement is beautiful.

I like the polished links on this once actually. Compared to my other watches, it feels smaller, more delicate, and dressy — it looks killer with a tuxedo. The way the bracket is made with the smaller links hides any PCL scratches more than a watch with larger links — I hear people say the same with Rolex jubilee vs oyster with PCL.

You can also get an aftermarket exhibition caseback for the hesalite.

I have heard tale of some boutiques agreeing to switch bracelets - that would surprise me, if so, but maybe worth asking. I'm kinda keeping my eyes open for offerings of used ones from trusted sellers to knock the depreciation off a tad, so that would obviate the dealer change option. Also thought about just sending the bracelet to Rolliworks or somewhere like that that is know for bracelet work and having the links brushed by someone that can match the graining.

I think I've locked in on the Sapphire version. PCLs be damned! Just go with it and see how I feel about it. Hell, I've traded plenty of watches, so if it ain't perfect there's always that option.

I'm excited about the METAS certification on this watch and the fact that this version hacks which has been a sticking point on this watch for me in the past. Everyone has their own idiosyncracies and being annoyed by non-hacking movements is certainly one of mine.

I had one with a hesalite crystal and a sapphire case back. The hesalite is old school cool if you want a Speedmaster.

Hacking was your sticking point? I've actually never heard of that being someone's "thing" before. We've all got one but that one is new for me.

Lyon, France - also bought one in Paris and one in Cannes for others travelling with me. This is mine. The OE strap is garbage - the only redeeming quality is that it looks good. As soon as I got back stateside, I put this Erika's Original Marine Nationale strap on it. Suits it perfectly for my uses.

Look closely at the sub dials and you can see that the hand on the chrono minutes subdial doesn't line up perfectly with the 60 minute hash. That's fine on a swatch, wouldn't float on a real speedy pro.

yep, and I gravitate toward extremely accurate mechanical movements. Another crazy tic I have is hating if a movement is slow - even if it is within COSC standards, can't stand something being on the minus side. That's what I am intrigued about with regard to the METAS time standard being 0 to +5 avg daily deviation.

Difficult to find. Are you an engineer? I know lots of engineers who have this obsession with the perfect mechanical watch.

nope, no love for higher math, just an old sawbones, but I do love to take things apart, check them out and put them back together, lol.

Get the hesalite. The hesalite adds a warmth to the dial that you do not get with the sapphire. I have had mine for more than a decade (1861) and I have yet to polish the acrylic.

I prefer my watches to hack as well — I do like to set them precisely when I set.

That said, my 3861 isn’t the most accurate watch in my stable. My ~4yr old seamaster has settled down further and is about ~2 seconds fast now, was about 3.5 back when it was new.

I'll be honest, that Moonswatch looks hella good on you man. I see why you're going after the big dog now.

Hi there I've gotten better, but there was a time when I would set my mechanical watches in line with an atomic clock and check their accuracy in different positions to try and keep them as accurate as possible when I'd take them off.

Yep, I never adopted this psychotic behavior. Simply because I didn't want it to drive me nuts. The most accurate watch is a Quartz
