You have a $40k budget for a SUV. New or slightly used (30k or less mi)

Need 3rd row and leather. Local dealers are Toyota, GM, Nissan, FCA.

Will be used for hauling kids to and from sporting events and traveling mainly.
Coming from 2016 Explorer, not going back to Ford. Looking for recs.

At that price point, maybe an Armada or a used Yukon XL? I don't care much for Sequoias

I’d buy a beater and keep the other $35k

I'd look very seriously at the Telluride

Not so much that I think it's great or I'm ready to get over my apprehension of driving a Kia, but because nothing else meeting those requirements interests me

Have looked at those. Closest dealership to me is 70mi. Service, if ever needed, would may be an issue

You can get your Lexus serviced at the local Toyota dealership. You will save a good bit of money as well. For your particular situation I would go with a 2019 Highlander

It won’t be an issue, I’m at year 14 on my third Lexus, I’ve had one issue and it was repaired at the local Toyota dealership.

Certified with < 10k miles if you can find one, save $$$

Hauling kids around and traveling.

I knew the Lexus' were mechanically the same as some yotas but didn't know Toyota would service them. Will they perform warranty work if I went with a CPO

You would have to go to Lexus for that, but don't worry, just get routine maintenance done, that thing won't be in the shop until over 200k.
