If you notice at the bottom, they claim a 1.5 mil property tax will only cost the average homeowner $1.50 a month.

For those who don't know, a mil can also be viewed as $1 per every $1,000 of home value. So a 1.5 mil tax would be $1.50 per $1,000 of value. With the average home price in EBR arond $170k, that would amount to an extra $255 in property taxes per year for 10 years and not the $18.75 that they claim.

Sad thing is most people will see these colorful fliers and not do any research and vote yes.

I'm all for helping mental health but if the people running the campaign can't do basic tax conversions why should I expect them to use the money correctly?

So people who want more taxes often lie about their true cost and their true use in order to make them more playable to get passed? Why I never!!!!

Add in these votes on property taxes should only be done by property owners

A millage of 1.5 isn't $1.50. It's 1.5 cents

100% agree with that. If you don't own property you shouldn't be able to vote for a property tax.

Agreed. I abstain from property tax votes for this reason.

They always use a 200 K home to illustrate the tax burden, but how many live in a 200K home?

Also the homestead exemption needs to be considered. The exemption is far greater in the overall percentage the smaller it is.

They're actually using the median Val of 150k

Easy math, folks. Their math is correct.

From Investopedia,
LINK
quote:

Mill rate is also known as the millage rate. The term "millage" is derived from a Latin word "millesimum" meaning "thousandth," with 1 mill being equal to 1/1,000th of a currency unit. As used in relation to property tax, 1 mill is equal to $1 in property tax, which is levied per every $1,000 of a property's determined taxable value.

The city wastes enough money already. Not voting to give them any more, no matter how pretty of a flier they make.

Bunch of dimwits running the city. Don't give a dimwit more money and expect good results.

But folks see a 200 thousand dollar home used as an example and if there's is a 400 thousand home then they double the tax illustrated and that's not accurate.

Nor does it reflect the tax to property owners who have property they rent to others. They get hit much harder and tenants pay more.

It's not like they suggest at all.

On a property valued at $170,000 it would mean an annual tax of $25.50. More that likely your home will be homestead exempt with the parish and only $95,000 of the property is taxable, so the real cost would be $14.25.

Always vote no on any tax

If the government wants more money to do something then cut spending elsewhere

You know, like a normal person on a budget does
