A car from GM's self-driving car unit, Cruise, received a traffic ticket last week from a San Francisco police officer who said that a Cruise car drove uncomfortably close to a pedestrian. Cruise disputes the officer's accusation, saying that the vehicle stayed more than 10 feet away from the pedestrian.

This time it's the police who are lying and trying to disparage a robot car that nearly hit another pedestrian.

Is this going to be your new Amazon? It's annoying.

Is my job to deliver the truth as much as it hurts those who willingly welcome their new robot killers.

How do you give a car a ticket? Do they know to pull over? I think Mr/Mrs Cruise should file a lawsuit against police for being racist. Wonder what color the car was. (I'm absolutely joking, don't take this for more than it is)

and what exactly is the truth here?

Subjective police account or the 10.8 ft as recorded by the car?

I see you have already accepted "objective" evidence as presented as defense by the violator.

Awesome

TIL a reading from a proximity sensor is subjective.

You're right, the cops "nuh uh" defense is the stronger evidence.

Evidence provided by owner/programmer of sensor.

Nobody seems to be identifying the color of the car, but c’mon...we all know.

So the cop knew this was a robot car when he pulled it over?

Because Occam's razor tell us the more likely conclusion is that the data was altered rather than a police officer misjudging 10 feet.

We get it, man. You're old and don't like new things. We went through this with Amazon, now it's driverless cars. You have a vendetta and now every minor instance is OMG THE WORST.

Probably, considering it's stamped on the side of the car.
