I think the answer is not so much dumb CEOs as it is “Blackrock”. Pressure from woke Wall Street is what is doing it. And if you leave that brand, and go to another one? Well, they own part of that company, too.

An equal amount of propaganda spouting mouth-breathers IMO.
There was a time when people were afraid of propaganda. Now with social media people can't wait to use their platform as a megaphone to regurgitate nonsense fed to them intended to perpetuate divide.

Then posting the five-year chart for their stock price doesn't make too much sense. It shows that their brand has been failing and that some sort of change was probably needed to address that failure. I don't even think that the recent changes are really turning their back on the brand anyway.

As soon as you replied to my comment laughing at the "Go woke go broke" notion.
I'd argue that the 5y decline is not related to a shift in brand strategy either but more due to their inability to attract a newer and younger client base. Sure, maybe some of their loyal client base is turning away but the fact is their client base has been on a dramatic decline since before the pandemic.
While they may be "turning back on their brand" that's not the cause of their stock value.
