We just found out today that my Mom has Multiple Myeloma. I have never heard of it before. She starts chemo treatment tomorrow, then again on Thursday. Does anyone have any experience with Multiple Myeloma, either personally or through a relative? The Doctor said it is very treatable and easy to put into remission but I'm sure they always say that.

It’s true.

Multiple myeloma is rarely aggressive.

Myeloma therapy has evolved arguably as much as any other tumor therapy in the last 10 years. There have been more approvals for myeloma in the last 5 years than any other tumor.

My wife has cancer and has been going through chemo for six months. It's very difficult on them and loved ones. DO NOT let her or you diagnosis on the internet. My wife did this for awhile and was convinced she only had months to live in spite of what her doctors are telling her. Her prognosis is good now but she is not out of the woods. Be strong, be supportive, be optimistic and she will beat this.

Best wishes and best of luck to her and all of your family

No, they don't always say that. Some can be very blunt, which my family experienced first hand. Not sure if we would have rather him lied to us or told us the way it was (which he certainly did)

In the cancer game, there are many kinds with different growth rates. Some are basically slow growths, while others are a death sentence. Most humans will experiance cancer. Best chance for survival is early detection. You should have this on your chart, and consult with your GP on monitoring yearly.

They're even making strides against lung cancer. My uncle just finished up a round of radiation and chemo that completely eliminated his tumor, and started on a maintenance dose of a brand new drug that's shown great success in preventing recurrence.
