So, my A/C went on the fritz yesterday. Never blew cold once. I thought it was low on freon. Bought a can of A/C Pro with the hose gauge, and once I hooked it up, it was 100% full. So, I originally thought there is a blockage.

First thought was in the orifice tube. Replaced it since it was cheap, and no dice. Once I began to load it up with more freon, the gauge on the hose said it was full after about an 1/8th of a can, which can't be right at all. I noticed the click of the compressor kick on, but when I went to investigate, the clutch wasn't spinning.

I had a buddy helping me out, and he went into cab of the truck to flick the A/C button off and on. Each time, the compressor clicked and the clutch spun about a 1/4 turn before stopping.

I'm thinking it's the relay in the fuse box for the A/C compressor. The clutch isn't getting enough power to engage. I could be wrong. It could be a blockage. But I don't see how or where it could be.

What are the OT's thoughts?

If this thread get's moved to the Outdoor Board, what's the ODB's thoughts?

Did you check the manafold over the hydrocoil? If that burns out you have to shut her down.

You may need a new compressor if the relay is good.

If so, I’d get one off RockAuto.com.

Start capacitor

ETA never mind, I thought this was your house. Sounds like the clutch is bad.

While he didn’t specify home or car, I assumed vehicle.

You can check if there's 12V at the compressor when you switch it on. If there is, your clutch is bad and you need a new compressor.

usually its the relay. You should have more things that use same type of relay, like your horn. swap them out to test.

Check to see if the cooling fan is coming on. If the fan doesn't come on the AC will not run. Check for a blown fuse.

Need more info here. A/C systems very from manufacture. Some clutches will not engage once the system drops low on freon.

Like I said in the OP, the gauge read that the freon level was 100% full. I emptied it while putting in a new orifice tube, and went to refill it with freon. It would only let me put in an 1/8th of a can because the compressor wouldn't turn over. It would click, but not spin over.

Seriously, there's no telling what damage you've do. Your supposed to pull a vacuum before adding refrigerant. How much oil was left in the system? You need to bring it to a reliable shop. Be prepared to spend big bucks.

After you opened the a/c system to replace the orifice tube did you use a vacuum pump on a/c system?

we won't talk about that. i didn't get very after replacing the orifice tube. my plan was to take it to a shop during lunch today if the relay wasn't the issue.

Did you get a shot of pressurized freon and oil to the face when you opened the system
