Masks have proven not to be effective with this virus.

which variant?

which mask?

i'm not a "masks don't work" kinda guy, but i think in public settings, outside of catching sneezes or cough droplets, there really isn't a ton of good masks are doing in transactional settings like a grocery store or school.

masks are probably more effective in homes than they ever were in a store.

that being said, an entire family that we're friends with were insanely cautious (but not assholes) and i never saw them indoors without a mask, except while eating, managed to catch it while wearing a mask at Christmas while only being outdoors and requiring their extended family to wear masks.

so i'm not saying masks don't work, but i am saying they aint 100%.

N95 is obviously different. if the state had mandated and provided (not advocating for that, but put your money where your mouth is) N95 masks for everybody, i'd buy it.

but that's not what they did.

75% vaccinated is an absurd number that isn’t really backed up by any real measure of herd immunity that I’ve seen.

75% is a nice, clean number that’s easy to remember a d easy to spout off.

As the poster earlier pointed out, it’s also damn near impossible to obtain if we are counting people under 16 who the vaccine hasn’t been approved for yet

I hope the first reason I stated is why it was chosen, but I fear the second is actually why it was selected as the value where restrictions will be lifted.

Here is the question that NO ONE who is all in on this farce (the gross overreaction to this pandemic) wants to acknowledge or recognize as reality: What happens when the next "pandemic" virus rolls out (likely from Asia)? Because that WILL happen again....as it has for DECADES (if not longer).

Obviously there won't be a vaccine for that strain of upper respiratory infection. So do we start this entire process ALL over again? Hyperbolic fear mongering by the media and government...forced complete shutdown of society...encouragement to "do your part for just a little while" for the greater good...months and months ridiculous precautionary measures largely devoid of logic...rushed development of a vaccine touted to be the savior of society...only to then continuously move the ENTIRELY ARBITRARY goalpost for "success"...brief return to the "new normal"...only to start the process all over again?

This is all setting a dangerous precedent that our largely happily ignorant populous doesn't seem to fully grasp

Yes, but only if it’s an election year and the incumbent President is a Republican.
