I did a short turn at the Pentagon. Those in leadership have more information than those that serve and more than the gen. pub.
I trust that they want the best even if I disagree what is best.
I think in the moment, especially as an officer, you have to fully commit to believing. I have to admit in the months leading up in 1990 I was crapping my pants watching CNN HLN every morning and evening. I was a platoon leader in an Engineering Company attached to a Chemical Brigade and with the threat of chemical weapons and the "million mine minefield" looming I expected to be the tip of the spear at some point. Especially given the Armies lack of chemical assets at the time. Getting shot at is one thing, taking direct and indirect fire while clearing and proofing lanes in minefields while in MOPP 4 sounded like something from the inner ring of Dante's 7th circle of Hell. Fortunately, the minefield turned out to be more like the hundred mine minefield.

Sad but true. I have seen it with my own mom and dad.
Same with my aunt and uncle, who were married over 70 years. My aunt died in 2016 and he followed less than a year later in 2017. They were both in their 90's.

Living on love, buying on time
Without somebody nothing ain't worth a dime
Couples that old together that long usually die close to each other. I think it's a mental thing...they just let go and want to be with spouse.

He just came in contact with Hillary. Of course he'll be dead soon.

I've seen it before, and I can think of a lot worse things.

Politics aside...
WW2 hero. Won the Distinguished Flying Cross as a bomber pilot. Shot down and rescued by submarine, his two shipmates died.
The other pilots were executed and some eaten. I just finished reading FLYBOYS.

Was Jimmy Carter at Barbara's funeral? I saw the pic with Obama, W Bush, Clinton, et. al, but no Carter.

2 examples off the top of my head...
1) Let's Make a Deal host Monty Hall and his wife were married almost 70 years. She died last June. Monty was still said to be in good health at the time, but he died less than 4 months later at age 96 of heart failure.
2) My friend's grandparents both lived to be a little over 100 and were in good health the whole time. When the wife died somewhat suddenly (if there is such a thing when you are 100), the husband only made it about a month before he passed.
