Would it be better to lose your mind or your body, considering that one or the other is inevitable?

Hmmm... I think I'd rather lose my mind before my body.

mind

I have a very good gimplse of this right now with my 2 grandmas

one has her mind but her body if failing and she is completely depressed and is 100% aware of her mortality and how long she has left and can't do anything about it

the other's mind is completely gone, but her body is sound and she is happy and loves everyone, although she can't remember anything from 5 minutes ago

If I lose either and have no way of getting either back then both are equally as bad.

If I have to choose I would lose my body. If I lose my mind you pretty much lose it all anyway.

When you say "lose your mind", I'm guessing you mean going insane and not brain dead. That's kind of a crap shoot. Lots of people go insane and seem to be in a really good place. Others go insane and seem afraid or angry the whole time. Do I have any control over which way my insanity leans?

But here's the kicker... do you want to be self-aware of your physical deterioration?

But on the contrary, losing one's mind would effectively make you helpless and thusly a burden on friends/family.

Either one is going to suck, that's for damn sure.

Gotta give the nonsense a break every now and then, it's good for the soul.

Alzheimer's is a pretty cruel disease and, in every case I've seen, always leaves the patient frightened and confused. Certain types of dementia can lead to a blissful oblivion kind of state. But if you're not gonna give me anything more than that, I'll go with body. I'm confident in future breakthroughs being able to repair a broken body, not so much a lost mind.
