I’d rather be walked in via horse than in the back of a car

Of course, I don’t plan on doing anything that would make my arrest a necessity

I get that the optics are not good but there is context to be asked for here. If there are only 3 squad cars what if they were not available?

What the frick were they supposed to do? Stick him up the horse's arse?

You do realize there's a plexiglass partition in squad cars for a reason, right?

People are so fricking stupid.

Why do they use mounted police to respond to a trespassing call? Seems odd.

I have no problem with this as long as it was safely done and the guy was able to walk without issue. As long as they're going to do it to any apprehended criminal I see no reason to restrict police because some people are sensitive to the optics of a harmless method of apprehension.

Would they not care if he was pinned down, arrested, and forcefully thrown into the back of a squad car? That seems physically more taxing on the perpetrator.

If they were the closest on the call, they respond. Same for a bike cop.

Now, since everyone now has their panties in a twist about this, they probably should have called for a car for optics sake, but there is nothing inherently wrong here.

About to my limit of other people's outrage.

Why? Would it be odd if a bicycle cop showed up?

They were on the Strand. Like I pointed to earlier, there arent many cops on the island. You can ride around Galveston for weeks and never see a cop.

Besides the beach, the Strand is the other popular spot to go to. They will have some horse cops and maybe a car unit go around there occasionally but there has never been a heavy police presence anywhere. When the call came in, they were probably the closest

I'm sure bicycle cops are rare in Galveston probably because bicycles often get stolen in the areas they patrol.

Anytime a bike cop responds, they immediately send a squad car also. This just seems stupid. It’s bad optics and it doesn’t stop that guy from taking off. In fact if he were so inclined, he could take that cop off the horse and injure him in the process pretty easily.

Ever see a bicycle cop take someone in? It’s weird.

So it also puts the officer at risk of unnecessary injury which you ignore, but as long as you can get bad optics, you gotta go for it.
