Colonialism civilized large portions of the planet, and the British weren't able to sustain. Now you have places like Africa that are stuck between western and traditional cultures. Most of India and China is still wasting in poverty. Rivers in Africa are so over fished, land locked locals can't provide enough protein for daily living. They are rekting the planet.

The Demographic Transition model shows us that this is pretty much how all modern societies develop. The TFR in Turkey in 1950 for example was around 5.0, and is now at or below replacement. This pattern is true of pretty much everywhere, except for places in Sub-Saharan Africa. Development leads to declining TFR's.
And it's not true that colonialism civilized the planet. And I don't know what the relationship is between that civilization and birth rates. Nearly every colonial subject had much higher TFR after independence than they do now, and since TFR is closely linked with development, the clear conclusion is that those countries are becoming more developed, and were essentially undeveloped after colonization, despite this supposed civilization.
Also poverty levels are below 20% in India and China.

There's a shite load of planet with plentiful resources. The issue is migration patterns haven't kept up with resource use.

At the expense of whatever your belief system is. If you feel like the country is heading in the wrong direction, one of the most fundamental ways to change it is to raise children.

As I said, it's not about responsibility, it's about a change in priorities. People aren't waiting to have kids because they can't afford them, they're waiting to have kids because they can't afford both kids and their higher priorities.
I'm not suggesting either side is right, but it's the truth.

I live pretty cheaply but if I had a kid right now I wouldn't be able to give him/her the life I'd want it to have. I also recognize that I am not ready to be a father. I don't see this as having higher priorities, it is more a recognition of my flaws.
Birth control has a lot to do with it as well. I can't judge folks for wanting to have consequence free sex. I want that too lol. Without birth control I would probably have a kid by now and would have to raise it in less than ideal conditions.
