It'll be cool to see the results.

Yep, until big shite starts breaking,
The cost to replace a transmission is about the same amount you would pay in sales tax on a new car. Sometimes it makes sense to even replace some big shite.

The synthetic oil may still be good but the filter isn't doing the job.
It's an Amsoil filter. It's supposed to be rated for long intervals.

The OP would probably be wise to change the filter every 5-7k during this experiment.

Yep. When something that costs $500 breaks, just remember that's one note.
You'd have to break a $500 part every month for 6 years to equal out to what a nice new rig will cost you.

My 17.5k Jetta I just bought required about $750 in sales tax, which I am paying on my tag purchase since it's out of state. I figured the 55 highway MPG would help offset the cost since we do a lot of road trips.

I need some of that in my life

Yep, I was driving my '79 F-150 on 35s. I don't have to drive far to work/school, but at 10 MPG, it adds up quick. I still have her, but she won't see much road action, strictly a situational vehicle.

Exactly right about fixing and/or replacing big shite.
You'll take a big $$ hit trying to avoid the repair cost and sell a broken car.
It's a no-brainier to fix things and continue enjoying no car note.

Has anyone stretched Amsoil to the 25K mark
NO. And I never would... I don't care how good they say the oil is... 25,000 miles is way way to many miles for any engine without a filter and oil change... My new car can go to about 7,600 miles... Thats as far a s I plan to go....

Well the Jetta we just got has 10k intervals stated in the manual using VW products. Like I said, this is strictly experimental. I'm sure everyone will be able to take something from it, considering it will be oil in an '05 vehicle.

I don't anyone that changes oil every 3K.
Change it when the computer says so.
Use Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 is outdated. Synthetics change with technology, Mobil 1 hasn't, at least not for their base. There is data that put Mobil 1 mid-tier now. Of course in '04/'05 it was the shite, now it isn't. Also, the computers are set to mileage, not the product most of the time.

I change the oil in my wife's 07 CRV about every 2,500 miles. That's once a year. She drives about 45 miles a week to work and trip to Wal-Mart.

Extreme use.
That's way different from someone changing oil every 3K under normal conditions.

See what manufacturers use Mobil 1 as a factory fill:
LINK
These companies warranty the engine on these high performance cars.
Actually, the computer that indicate oil change intervals in cars uses far more variables than just mileage.

It varies.
I'm talking about anything built after 2007-8.
Obviously, if you are running extreme conditions; cold starts/short trips, lots of idling time or dusty areas, use your judgement.
90% of the population can just change it when indicated mad be fine.

Not all mobil1 is created equal.
The 0w40 I use has one killer additivr pack.
As for base stocks, valvoline nextgen's wear numbers prove that to be less than important these days. The additive packs matter more than the base oil...at least according to the wear numbers of those blackstone analyses yall love so much.
