Hmmm...

quote:

The break-in happened in May but was not made public by the Police Department. Several parish officials, including Scott Perrilloux, the Tangipahoa Parish district attorney, were not aware of the burglary until the newspaper asked them for comment. "We did not know this had happened," Perrilloux said Tuesday.

You have a break-in and burglary of your evidence room and you don't notify prosecutors-or anyone else-with cases that utilize the evidence that was stolen?

Better yet...How was someone able to break into a secure facility in the first place?

quote:

The evidence room is in an ancillary facility less than a mile from the Amite Police Department. Police Chief Jerry Trabona said the burglary did not trip the building's alarm because "somebody with the city turned the electricity off, and we didn't know it had been turned off."

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

Do modern alarms not have redundancies that automatically set off an alert if there's a total power failure like that? Or batteries? Something?

No cases were affected. They don't use evidence.

They found a cell phone in my stolen car and made no attempt to find the owner.

ETA: This was in a different city. But cops aren't doing CSI shite for anything other than murder.

You're an Amite native that roots for Alabama?

Or did you lose a bet on here to get that team logo? Your name suggests that...

Sorry. I corrected the post. Nah I'm from Alabama. I joined when this was still a completely LSU site. Since many sites would deny membership to rivals I chose my name based off my high schools colors. Never changed it.

They've had to work outside their whole lives. They didn't get to use the air conditioner. They're probably safe. Though I doubt very seriously Perrilloux is anywhere near as hair-brained as that idiot up in Nowth Loozyana for certain.

Ross, 34, of Amite, has been booked on 103 counts in connection with the burglary, including drug possession, theft and obstruction of justice. He has served time in state prison for theft and drug possession.

The burglary appears to have been motivated by Ross' drug abuse and not a broader scheme to damage evidence in pending criminal cases. Court records show Ross was released in early May with the condition that he check into a substance abuse treatment center. But by May 24, a state district judge signed an order for him to be picked up again after he allegedly left the program before completing treatment.

While working as a trusty, Ross had been allowed to help transport drugs to the Police Department's evidence room and therefore knew where they were stored, Ordeneaux said. He also knew the electricity to the building was frequently cut off.

cant make this shite up

Back around 1978-1980 I had to do community service as a minor. It was supposed to be doing labor for the surburban PD. At that time they were moving from the little local courthouse/jail/fire department to a 2 story house on the corner of the street (the court/jail/FD was in the middle of the block). So we were hauling boxes and furniture and stuff down the street.

One of the other kids got into the evidence locker at the new location. It was just a cage of that steel chicken wire mesh stuff like HS gyms keep equipment locked up in but room sized. I found out he got in when he showed me the ounce or so of some golden powderized cannabis that was dated September 1972 and asked if I wanted to join in the smoking. LOL (it wasn't bad for the buzz, just tasted, well, old and harsh)

This was about the time we 1st learned of auto-erotic asphyxiation too when the same kid while he was cleaning the chief's car found a report about a hanging body with porn mags scattered around.
