The Census gathers household data in the "long form," or the American Community Survey. You could self-report as an unmarried same-sex household in the survey. It is not a good measure of the sexual orientation of the population.
The 2010 estimate was 646,000 same-sex unmarried households, out of 117 million households.

Either way, I was just clarifying, since the number could be incorrectly infected that the rate is about 0.6%--a previous poster mentioned 0.06%.

I'm not convinced the poll is well done, but I am annoyed with whiny homosexuals and the whiny offended straight people.
I think the majority of folks don't fricking care about other individual's preferences that don't affect them and are beyond their control and influence.
Hopefully everyone gets over it soon. There always has been and always will be gay people. Most gay people are not constantly b*tching about what straight people think about them.
I think people just need to stay out of each other's business and the media is creating victims. I know a lot of gay people and they aren't part of mentality so I ignore it.
