Subway CAN be healthy. It's all about what you order.
Anything (for the most part) CAN be healthy, depending on how you order. If you live an active lifestyle, especially. But for a sedentary individual, it's very hard to make subway healthy, and impossible when you order a footlong sub, regardless of bread type/sandwich type/toppings.

Processed deli meats are some of the worst things you can put in your body IMO. So much sodium and fat.

You don't have to order deli meats on your sandwich. Sometimes I get the Veggie Delight on wheat. No cheese. No Mayo. How is that unhealthy?

I would argue it doesn't really have much nutritional value and/or protein. Its not exactly unhealthy but I wouldn't call it healthy or nutritious either.

The amount of sodium it takes to make any difference in the human body is astounding. Some salty deli meat is not going to cause hypertension.

Then get the baked chicken breast or add cheese. With the amount of options available at Subway, it's a little silly to say it's not possible to eat healthy, imo.

I agree. Never said it couldn't be done.

they pretty much put the six healthy options in a line right there on the menu, it really isn't false advertising.

It's education (or lack there of). It's shocking how many people don't understand that weight loss is about a calorie deficit "healthy" or "unhealthy" has absolutely zero to do with it.

Has anyone mentioned stress yet?
After 10-12 hours of dealing with idiots and their inane "deadlines" I can shove back a 14" pizza and sixer of red and whites pretty easy.

Well that's kind of your own fault for working a job which leaves you such a poor quality of life. And its certainly your own fault for getting home and over eating/drinking.
Yeah, but he does make an interesting point. I believe high cortisol levels are associated with obesity. When the body is chronically stressed, it probably craves fuel and a Domino's pizza would be like crack cocaine. Not making an excuse at all, just making a general statement about the biochemistry of it all.

donut is unhealthy.
no it's not.
Healthy and unhealthy is stupid. Donuts have a placed in a balanced diet and can easily fit into your goals.

I eat three Oreos almost every night. And I probably eat healthier than most here. And certainly healthier than the masses.

Yep. The problem with a lot of people is that they'll order one of the healthy items, make it a 12 inch, add cheese, put it on garlic parmesan bread, slather it with mayo and oil, and still think they're eating healthy.

For weight loss, yes they are.

Its the culture of the country (quick and easy) and we do have a lot of dumb and poor people that live in America. If you don't get educated you won't get a good paying job and you will be poor. What do poor people eat, cheap fast food cause that is all they can afford.
This country as a whole would be much better off if we concentrated on education more, but the democrats certainly do not win elections with smart educated people So just keep paying the blissfully ignorant with mailbox money in exchange for a vote so everyone's health goes to shite. Seems like a great plan.
The answer to your original question, its all of the above (uninformed, dumb and don't care).

I think it's more laziness and ignorance than DGAF. Most obese people do not want to be obese and they lack the drive and knowledge of how to escape their unhealthy lifestyle.
Also, the America we live in is absolutely insane when it comes to food options and portion size and caters to people's unhealthy lifestyles.

But food pyramid, and new plate portion, and fat is bad, and 8 servings of whole grains...

#1, Subway is healthier than most fast food options but you've got to avoid the mayo and cheese. I lost 80 pounds and Subway was a big part of it. I work 12-14 hours a day and while I brought my own lunch in most days, when I had to eat out it was almost always Subway. Oven roasted chicken breast on wheat with no mayo or cheese for the win.
#2, Poor Americans are often fat Americans for the same reasons. They are short-sighted and lazy, so they often make bad decisions across a broad spectrum of their lives. They take the quick, easy way out in multiple arenas and don't make the tough choice by investing in themselves for the future. Stuffing their face with fast food meals twice a day is just another manifestation of that.
#3, As it's been stated, portion control is outrageous. I haven't been to a McDonald's or Burger King in about three years. But when my friends go and come back with a "medium" drink that's too large to fit in their car's cupholder, something is wrong.
#4, The only way to lose weight and keep it off is through a lifestyle change. Swearing off pizza or fast food for 30 days won't do jack shite until you "unlearn" your love of that garbage. I went from eating shite to forcing myself off fast food and soda to not wanting it whatsoever. I craved the hell out of it for several months. Then one day after a hard workout and reaching a weight loss benchmark, I treated myself to a double quarter pounder meal for old times sake. I felt like shite for almost 24 hours. Now I don't even crave that crap anymore. If I can do it, anyone on here could manage it. If you give up fast food and processed foods for a year, I promise you your body will struggle to digest it ever again.

Why does everyone on the OT work 12-14 hours a day? You people must be miserable.

Nah, I love my job. It's not like I work in a factory or anything. I've got a lot of freedom, get to travel and don't punch a time clock. Hell, I'm working now.
