Why?
Because it's a bloated, wasteful, inefficient, disorganized turd of an organization and 95% of what they deliver is unnecessary junk mail.

You do realize that it doesn’t use tax money, right?

Checks out. I'm around 5 years from retirement, so the collapse should happen right before I can hang up the cleats. FML

Yes, in theory they are self-funded but in reality they have been bailed out with billions of tax dollars.

America goes broke, the whole world goes broke. We’ve been subsidizing the world’s bullshite for decades. When that stops, everyone else in the world is just as screwed as we are.

Nah. The money we send doesnt go to the civilians of other countries. It goes to corrupt officials who then give kickbacks to our corrupt officials.
Besides weapons. We do spend a lot on weapons for other countries.

As someone in my 40s, I know plenty of folks who get their medication via ground USPS.
And no, UPS and FedEx could not handle the influx of deliveries, especially in rural areas if USPS didn't exist.

USPS is one of the great American successes and every American pays like 35 bucks for it plus their direct cost.
Should it be cleaned up? Absolutely, just like every American public entity, but it going away would be a disgrace

Take a look at this graph of Government expenditures and tell me where it make sense to make cuts that will make a difference?
Edit to add: "Health" = Medicare/Medicaid.

It will get rid of lib voters on the inside. lol
USPS has 533,000 career employees as of 2024. USPS also has 106,000 non-career employees (i.e. seasonal/temporary) in 2024.
The number of civilian federal employees outside USPS is about 2.35 million (executive branch civilian roles, excluding USPS).
Can you do a pie chart on this? :

By this statement, you also believe adding programs that only cost a few billion shouldnt worry anyone.
USPS is still viable but will not be much longer. The days of paper mail or short lived.

History has a great tendency to repeat itself.
Inflation, Healthcare costs, consumer debt and entitlements will cause another Great Depression by early 2030s.
ITR economics does a great job explaining the outcomes. They have been stating this since the 90’s. I would highly recommend subscribing to their newsletter and services.

Not at all. The point of that graph is 2/3 of the federal budget is Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security and the Military. Until we get the intestinal fortitude to reduce those programs, we aren't fixing the federal budget.
Now if you look at the age demographics of the country, part of this "problem" will take care of itself as the baby boomers pass on. But there is going to be a bump of pain given the size of that demographic that is going to be retiring in the next 5-10 years.

Because it's been discussed before.
And I live in a city where UPS has WorldHub, know plenty of folks who work for UPS. They can barely handle the delivery traffic they have now in peak season.
ETA: There's a reason for certain packages and deliveries they defer to USPS after a certain point in the process. USPS is more equipped to deliver in rural areas as well.

Most of our debt is to The Fed or due to The Fed. The Fed sells our debt to other foreign entities, so when you see charts that have foreign owned debt its because it originated with The Fed and they sold it.
TLDR The problem is The Fed
