I can't wait for them. Driving is fun and all, but the option to catch up on tv/movies, read, surf the net, etc while the car drives me is much more appealing.

How is the government telling you you're not allowed to drive?
I think I'm 10-15 years, driverless cars will be the majority, but I don't think they're going to outlaw cars that require driving.
But if done correctly, I'll go ahead and hop into the safer option and your odds of dying in an accident will be significantly higher than mine

Or should the car continue on its path, ensuring its passengers’ safety at the child’s expense?
The car should have started slowing down when it detected the ball in the road, and it should have scanners detecting any potential encroachment on the roadway from all directions therefore knowing ahead of time the potential for the kid to be a threat.

driverless cars and lawyers cannot exist on the same planet. the first time that a driverless car accidently malfunctions and kills someone, then the lawsuit will be so astronomical that the company who invented said car cannot exist.

Doubtful. The super rich make the laws and have collections of classic cars they will still want to take out for drives on Sunday.

They could, but that will take decades after driverless cars become the norm to implement as non-driverless cars phase out.

I drive 120 mile round trip 4 days a week. I'd love to be able to relax instead of drive.

But implementation will take generations. I dont think people take into account just how many poor people live in this nation that will never be able to afford to maintain that technology.

Govt issued breathalyzers and GPS' in all the cars for tracking. Maybe even some hacked car computer systems. Fun stuff

I enjoy driving as well but I am completely down for driverless cars. It will open up a whole new world for us and the number of lives it will save is incredible. I don't have a kid but I know I would be nervous with the thought of them turning 16 and driving. Driving is far and away the most dangerous daily activity that we all engage in. I would also be completely fine if they lowered the speed limit to 55-60. We'd save a lot of lives and cut our oil consumption considerably.

Take the bus or walk, like they already do for the most part.
So motorcycles will become illegal, or can they be driverless, too?

I think they will be great if done correctly. Not looking forward to the ~5 year cluster frick of the kinks getting worked out though

I'm OK if they never show up. But I'm OK if they properly develop and are confined to certain areas.
