Alternative cancer treatment not working out so well

"Patients who chose alternative therapies to treat a common, curable cancer instead of opting for the recommended medical treatment double their risk of death, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute."
"Yale School of Medicine's Dr. Skyler Johnson, lead author of the study, said that based on what he's seen as a practicing doctor, patients are increasingly refusing or delaying conventional cancer treatment in favor of alternative therapies."
As a result of that, their cancer is "advancing: either getting larger or spreading to lymph nodes or spreading to distant sites," Johnson said. "This is concerning, because your chance of cure decreases as the cancer grows and spreads."

Living increases your risk of death.

This should have been obvious, so even with this information, the people who ignored the obvious already, will probably continue to do so.

So long as they are fully aware of that I don't really see a problem.

The problem is their families have to suffer and that we as a country value longevity of life.

I completely support people who refuse conventional treatment. Let 'em die if that's what they want.

Yet most people actually are seeking alternative treatment as a supplement, still going through traditional methods. For instance, the ketogenic diet coupled with chemo seems to be extremely promising for many cancers.

I remember hearing about that on the JRE. Apparently sugar is a large contributor to tumor growth.

The median survival rate for the type of cancer Jobs had was 5 years, he lived 8 years beyond diagnosis.

One problem is the standard for success of conventional treatment is simply if the person is alive or not without regard for the quality of their life during the time lived.
