When opening a joint checking account, shouldn't the man's name always be first as in 'John and Jane Doe", not "Jane and John Doe"?

My boss and his wife dropped both of their last names and combined them into one frankenword, taking the first two syllables of her name and combining it with the last two syllables of his name.

What about if the wife is a doctor? In my case would it be "Mr. and Dr. LSUSUPERSTAR"?
