I did notice what appeared to be shredded fiberglass batting for some strange reason.
Mice or rat taking up residence.
Mud daubers can also build a nest in the worst damn places.

How many of yall have backup bilge pumps
Keep a manually operated hand held bilge pump on board.
In short, yes, you should protect your boat under cover.

Get rid of the fricking boat.
I had two babies in 1.5 years. Ever try to take a newborn and an 18 month old out on a boat?

At the very least you need to put a boat cover on it.
I had a boat cover once and it was a horrible mess and stained the gel coat anywhere it came in contact. I was thinking of maybe one of those pop-up car ports.

2nd, I bet you don't make that mistake again.
Damn skippy!

Boat cover.
Well it was my kids mother and we were at the beach not out on the water but yea, my respect for the usefulness of bilge pumps has been vigorously renewed.

Are you retarded? Serious question.
Depends on who you ask.

If leaves and debris are getting in your boat and bilge area that's bad. If your boat was covered to prevent this, that's good.
Capiche?
Well obviously but the question was more specifically about how common it is for enough debris to collect in the closed bilge of a double-walled hull, that sat in the open, that it would completely clog off the bilge pump intake.

Pay attention ppl who responded up to this point. This guy engaged in proper reading comprehension and responded appropriately. This is the kind of answer I was looking for. I didnt even think about mice but that would make perfect sense as to how the fiberglass got up in there.

Thats all I kept thinking while I was bailing water for 3 hours straight with a bucket from a sand castle kit.

how the F did the boat get that full of water? no plug?

My bass cat has 3 bilge pumps
1 manual
2 automatic
I use my boat constantly and make long runs sometimes crossing the Gulf when I can save time
Need all the help I can get in case of failure
All the pumps (aerators, recirculate, and bilges) are all inter changeable
Just never know what might happen
I also keep a Mr Bubbles recirc kit in my tool bag
It will pump out water if needed
It does sound like you've got some rodents screwing up your day however

Not sure really. Bilge plug was in. I have a couple of ball scuppers that will lap water in and out of the transom if the water level is about even. When the boat floats up and down from wake or wave if the level stays around the scuppers it will let some water in. In the past the bilge pump would kick on and pump that little bit of water out and it was never a problem.

Im starting to lean towards this as the culprit. I hope they didnt get into my wiring.
