re: Almost 20,000 students ask to have student debts erased

I agree with you. Rather than keeping us in war, bailing out Wall Street, giving aid to countries, etc, if we would invest in educating our own people, we would come out better in the long run. It seems okay to spend 20 Trillion on the Iraq wars, but god forbid we spend any money on making this country better.

how will having student debts erased affect their credit?

Student borrowers say they were deceived about job prospects
Why the hell these numbnuts thought a degree in things Medieval Aquatic Art History or Transracial Gender Studies would be lucrative is their own fault. They would be better off (but still wrong) suing the colleges just for offering such useless degrees in the first place.

I have about a $100k of law school debt. I'm obviously paying it back. One thing that does tick me off is the exorbitant interest rate. I think it's ridiculous that I am paying more money to borrow money for education that someone is to buy a used car. I mean, one would think that the policy of the US would be to encourage people to go to school to better themselves and the country by providing cheap interests rates. But no, I'm pay like 9% while Jerry is paying freaking 3% on his used Toyota Carolla. WTF
Did they hide from you what the interest rate would be on your loan when you signed the papers?
What am I going to do, decide not to go to law school because the feds are gouging me on interest rates? No. Am I going to complain about it. Hell yeah. Why did the feds give 0% interest loans to banks in 2008 and screw over students on loans at 8%? It's BS that the US is taking advantage of students, while giving everyone else a break.

All while completely ignoring how out of control college costs have gotten in the last 15 years and how easy it is to take out massive debt. Who made it that way? Helpful hint, it's not the 18 year old going to college.
Here's an idea. Before enrolling in college and assuming the massive debt to follow, sit down and figure out if it's even worth it.
Do you ever plan on buying a home or a car? Will you just go find what you want and take out a loan for it without looking to see if the home or auto you're buying is worth what you're paying? Will you not factor in whether or not you'll be able to repay the loan? Taking out a collage loan is no different than taking out any other loan. You've got to look at the same considerations and conclude if it's worth it or not. And you've got to do this before you sign your name to the loan. Once you've signed, that's it, it's yours. How is it that you can't understand this? Did nobody ever take the time tell you these things when you were growing up?

Here's a better idea. Read what I'm posting instead of pontificating like the ignorant dumbass you keep acting like.

Filed suit under that law the week I got licensed to practice.
I knew I would never get it all forgiven, but Sallie Mae was quick to forgive the cost of the defense it would have taken. Took a nice chunk out.
In America, there are talkers and doers. I am the latter.

How is your dumbass not getting this? People in their 40's and 50's just wrote the damn book on defaulting for loans. That's exactly what just caused the recession. The government just bailed out the banks to the total of 29 TRILLION dollars, for you guessed it, people not paying back loans they took out. I swear, you might be the most ignorant mother fricker on here.
You just said that people defaulting on loans is what caused the Great Recession but you're now arguing to allow students to do the same damn thing. Has it not occurred to you that this will lead to just another recession? And you call me ignorant. What an idiot.

Fuq em. They accepted the risk and assumed the loan. Now because they picked a worthless degree or that their to stupid to apply themselves the tax payer should bail them out? They should commit suicide and do society a favor. Fuqin pussies !

Read my damn posts retard. I said in my very first one I have no sympathy for anyone who is in debt. I'm simply pointing out how much of a hypocritical asshat you are for lecturing to "millennials" about paying back debt. It's icing on the cake that you specifically mention buying a house, since millions of people your age just decided to stop paying for theirs only 10 years ago. You have to work hard to be that much of a dumbass.

What he's saying is that the baby boomers are quick to judge when they did the exact same thing.
Ironic that the finest generation was followed by the absolute worst.

I do feel bad for the students that have been sold pie in the sky dreams by their parents, HS staff, and college recruiters. That being said, ultimately they signed on the dotted line without doing adequate research and risk analysis.

I wonder how many of these 20,000 students have a liberal arts degree or a women and gender studies degree. No wonder they cant find jobs.
I have plenty of student debt, a job, and can pay them back. Its not that hard.

It's is freaking amazing. They bitch because there's no jobs. There's no jobs because of the recession. The recession was caused by massive numbers of people defaulting on loans. So what solution do they come up with? Allowing even more people to default on even more loans. You can't make this shite up.
But wait, let's just let the government bail them out. Nevermind the fact the government is already $20 trillion in debt. Nevermind the fact the government is printing more and more paper money every fricking day. They can just print up a few more trillion to bail out all these new defaults. Guess they never stopped to think that one of the main drivers of the inflation they like to bitch about is the fact that printing more and more money devalues the American dollar, thus driving up inflation. You think the fricking the Baby Boomers handed down to us all is bad? The fricking to future generations would make the Boomers look small in comparison to what is happening now and they just want to pile more on top.

Plenty of people with liberal arts degrees get jobs out of college. Good paying ones too. Can't speak for gender studies specifically, but don't be so narrow in your analysis of what is typically the largest college on campus.

It has to be hard to be a s clueless as you are. There is nothing that is that simple about the student loan and college cost situation.
