He played rec ball from 5 until three years ago. They won their tournament yesterday. Nothing about sucking a-hole.

friend of mine played football at LSU, he has a son that was a really good athlete, had size and speed, dad was having non of this travel nonsense, wouldn't even let him play football until junior of hs, ended up being a four year starter at GT, played a year or two in the NFL

The whole only travel ball will get you in to High School is a lie perpetuated by the likes of the USSA to make money. Fact.

Not true at all..Travel baseball is all freaking year long 3-5 days a week. There is no other options, your life and your kid's life belong to travel ball. It sucks royaly.

I have two in it. Both absolutely love it. I was 100% against it for years, in the end it was best decision we could have ever made for our kids.

My kids play other sports. We play less than 50 games with just 1 tourney being fall, two max. Max games we would play would be 60. Play every other weekend. Practice 2 days a week in season and during fall, 3 days a week in January and February. Fall is mainly s&c and throwing is very restricted.

Sounds like you hate it cause your kid doesn't like it and sounds like you are with an organization that sucks. Find a better one. You don't need to be on a team that plays 100 games a year, that's fricking stupid.

My kids life doesn't belong to travel ball. Unfortunately, my middle kid is ate the frick up with it so all he wants to do is for me to throw or pitch to him every day when I get home from work. I have to make him back off but love his passion and work ethic. Oldest loves baseball but likes football more.

Oh and if you are skipping your kids games to do things around the house.. you have bigger issues. Sounds to me more like you don't want him playing and you hate it because it takes uo your free time. I love watching mine play and cherish it and wouldn't miss their games if at all possible.

My youngest still plays rec and it sucks. Half the parents won't have their kids there. They make it hard on coaches, everything is disorganized, all stars is a joke. There is a reason so many want to leave. The lack of skill development is just one of the reasons.

Honest;y 13 year old's should be playing some sort of school/legion ball or on an academy team and not necessarily playing in your traditional USSSA or OTC tournaments....at that age the level of competition just isnt there anymore.....the better players have moved on from "travel ball" by the age of 13

There is a reason why Cooperstown's highest age is 12...they know the kids move on to bigger and better things when they start playing at the 13 age group

Fact is you are a fricking idiot. Fact. You hate travel....that's fine. But it is rare for a kid to play rec only and make a hs team and it isn't happening at the good schools. It's just not.

You have no clue the competition level if you think other wise. Just like it's very very rare for a kid to not take private lessons and become a starter, it happens but it's rare.

Agreed. I can tell you, I can count on one hand per tournament how many kids look like next level prospects. Pitching is awful.

No they haven't 13u is the most competitive of all. 14u in spring is right there. It's the 8th grade year. The good kids are playing majors and high level aaa by that point.

Yes there are teams that are filled with incoming freshman and sophomores that play against kids their own age

If this was how it was set up for us, I would not nearly have an issue. Its 10 months out of the year. He can practice every day of the week, that's up to him. But the fact of taking almost every weekend up for 7-12 hours a day is ridiculous.

I have responsibilities outside of work 50 hours a week and then sitting at a park an additional 15-20 just about every weekend.

Pretty much 100% at this point.

That is what is so funny, so many come on here and run their mouths not having any fricking clue what they are talking about.

At this point though who cares about MLB. To even make a good hs team(3a and above) you better be a really really special athlete or have been playing very high level. And you better start some form of S&C training by 13.

The competition level is fricking insane at the good schools.

It's apparent you're one of those parents that have given the stigma that travel ball has.

Thank you for clearly proving my point.

Well, it sounds like he hates it, yet you’re here complaining about it all. Yet, he’s been playing for 3 years doing something he and you hate while the mother is 110% into it.

Sounds like you don’t have the balls to tell his mother you’re pulling him out. She’s the one living vicariously through your kid.

Find a better organization if you can then. I know majors and very high level aaa which are doing this exact same setup.

Many are playing 2 or 3 of the 2d fall Sunday tournaments. Then they play the 2d select or PG during the spring playing about 10 tourneys total.

Sounds like yall just need to find a better organization that understands how to take a long term development approach and that eventually you have to raise the athletes base athletic floor to raise the overall ceiling on the player.
