Simple economics, for many things the cost to recycle is greater than the value of the materials recovered.

Solar module recycling is fairly infantile right now. Mostly because they don't just crap out at 25 years but continue to produce at a lower level. Therefore, many are left in place since they've been paid off 2-3X already and its free power at that point. The other big driver for a need would be unit failures and they just don't have a high enough failure rate to create a market.

I think that is a true sentiment for the Leftist masses -feelings.
But from a political aspect. planners and developers and solar panel makers only had self interest on their minds and influenced policy makers.

Like the uprising in Holland by Dutch farmers protesting the new govt regulations to curtail farming to reduce nitrogen emissions.
It has nothing to do with nitrogen emissions. It’s all about developers seeking land and they pay off the pols.

Did you ever look into the disposal/remediation clauses and or bonding in the contracts?

California is having a hard time even recycling aluminum cans these days. Breweries are running out of cans because of that.

It varies by state and developer. Some states allow for the developer too displace the liability onto the land owner through contract performance, some through a bond. Others force the asset manager to perform that duty via cash, bond or having a back up servicer combined with a bond. The EPA and NREL have been trying to get some alignment but as we all know, no one can agree on anything. While I agree with how the EPA was recently neutered, it was probably the best opportunity to get a national strategy.

At least they aren't like those "25 year " LED lightbulbs that I have that many have quit working only after a couple of years of sparingly use.

Thinking further about this on the way home, we're headed down the same path when it comes to to dispose of electric and hybrid vehicle batteries.

Wait until all those batteries in electric cars start reaching End of Life and have to be disposed of. Not to mention it’s going to cost you 15,000 for a new set. And your car will be worthless on the used market if you don’t replace them when they expire.

The hidden truth.
