My gf, who's in alpha phi, said that others in the sorority saw that there were snapchats of the some of the phi delts "studying" and for every time they got a question wrong they'd take a shot. I highly doubt that they were studying but who knows. Also i don't know if the kid was with them in the snaps either.
This brings up a good point. Kids needing to act out on social media for attention can contribute to these problems

Socially awkward? Perhaps you might want to venture out of your bubble.

Back in my day we could kill pledges any goddamn way we pleased!

They don't facilitate binge drinking anymore than any typical college aged party.

He was referring to the 99% of Greeks who weren't facilitating binge drinking.

This is a failed attempt at "I'm not jealous and I don't care about fraternities"

It's pretty clear the Greek haters dominate this thread but I'll say anyway, it's comply WRONG to punish thousands of students who, not only did not have anything to do with it, but also make great efforts to follow the rules.

Exactly. Thats the key. "Facilitating" or worse organizing a session of binge drinking is crazy. So many stories where the typical is the pledges locked in a room with a keg and cant leave until it is floated.
As an old Phi Delt (not LSU as my username indcates) I know ANY frat party is meant for binge drinking. Any college party with kegs is meant to binge drink, but nobody is forcing and unless a game of Quarters then and Beer Pong now is going on.
Shots are crazy though. I recall an LSU student dying in 1991-92 from vodka shots at a drinking game/contest. Something like 18 shots in an hour or some shite. Shots are just ridiculous. Unfortunately it takes years of adulthood to realize this. Also, being underage and illegal doesn't help. shots and shot games are practical for 18-20 year olds who have to get their drinking done quickly in case they get caught.
There will be a reaction and an overreach, but nothing will change. Young kids will do dumb things. Abolishing fraternities will do little to stop college drinking. You will still have secret chapters if charters are pulled.
Just sad.

How are these Greeks truly being punished? They can't have a social for the time being?
Well I'm sure they've all paid their dues by now and booked some bands and third party vendors for post-football game parties and such... So a shite ton of deposits are about to be down the drain. Yeah, I'd be pretty livid if I was them.
Try to put yourself in their shoes. Imagine your neighbor had a dog fighting ring in their backyard and your HOA decides to respond by banning dogs from all the houses in the neighborhood. Because of one a-hole. How is that fair?
I mean hell this sort of mass punishment for a few bad apples was already tried before on a bigger scale. It was called the prohibition. Remember how that turned out? ETA: to add that this statement is hyperbole, since that is going over people's heads

Care to explain all these posts and threads from the butt hurt envious crowd?

I had an awesome college experience. What am I supposed to be jealous about?
You frat stars are so dang sensitive.

Yeaaaaaaaa........
Completely unrelated.
Like not even in the same stratosphere

It was a question, not a statement. I was asking what is the tangible aspect of this punishment. Thank you for answering.

Go look up the word hyperbole. I'll wait.

So a small amount/degree of unfair undeserving punishment is okay?

Which has nothing to do with 99% of those being punished.
You people are complete hypocrites. If it was you or your "group" being punished for the actions of completely unrelated persons you'd be wringing your wrists in fury.

Gotcha, I just picked your post to respond to, but was responding in general to all the people that don't see what's wrong with the overreaching suspension. Is it a HUGE deal for all the people that got suspended? No, they'll survive. But I can empathize that it sucks to get sanctioned for something you didn't do

Your exaggeration needs to be somewhat related for it to be effective.
The reasons for prohibition don't even share anything in common with this scenario.
