You're younger than me. I was there back in 91'. Fort Puke has always sucked.

Oh, it still does. I was there from 97-2000. An old buddy of mine I was stationed there with moved back and is still in at JRTC. His wife is from DeRidder and they have a ton of land over there. He said it hasn't changed much if at all.

My dad was there from 1992-94 before he retired. He was a re-up NCO for 15th Evac. We didn't live there as he got a compassionate reassignment. We were supposed to go to Germany but my grandmother had a heart attack when my dad took PCS leave during the holidays.

I never lacked anything to do in Rapides Parish. But I'm not a miserable frick to begin with.

dated a chick from there in college for a year. She insisted on moving back after graduation and I told her I wasn't going with her. Pretty much ended that one

I dated two chicks from there in college and after, both wife material, but also both intended on staying there, so dated briefly.

I was National Guard from 86' to 92'. We did weekend drill at Ft. Polk every other weekend and 2 weeks every August. My Unit got activated for Desert Storm, but we spent most of that time in Ft. Hood. My Dad was my 1st sergeant and retired a few years after my ETA.

I was pretty serious with this girl (and she was actually hot) but apparently not live in Alexandria serious. She insisted on living near her parents.

I mean, I’m not about to knight for Alexandria, but just what sort of shenanigans are you trying to get into the day after Christmas while you’re visiting your in-laws? They could live in just about any city in the United States, and I’d imagine my time would be relatively the same in any one of them.

I'm not familiar with Pineville, but I agree. If you are a miserable frick, you're probably a Bama fan.

It's by far the shittiest city in a state that's for the most part, full of shitty places.

That's saying a lot.

Grew up and still live in Pineville. Work in Alexandria and send kids to school there. We love it here. About once a year someone shits on central LA without knowing or caring to know anything about it. Yes we love Jesus but don’t live poor. We have tons of friends and actually get involved so we aren’t sitting around bored.

Not sure what OP was looking to do on a Tuesday night. Not many places in LA have much going on on a Tuesday. Alexandria has plenty of good restaurants or are in very close driving distance to.

Love when the “big city” people get on here and crap on small town life. We don’t have to deal with long work commutes and terrible traffic (Baton Rouge) or getting shot/mugged (N.O.). We’ve lived all over the state with school and post graduate school and love it back home. To the guy not willing to even consider moving for a girl he considered wife material, clearly she wasn’t the one or you are just a miserable person. End of rant. Goodnight.

When we moved to LA in 1982 to attend grad school at LSU, we soent our first night in LA in Alexandria. Our first thought after looking around town was "what have we gotten ouselves into?" Took us 33 years to get out!

I feel like Alexandria is the prime example of a place where people from there call it “God’s country” and everyone else asks “why?”

Pros:
Lake life

Cons:
Probably everything else

I did 19 years in A-town...
It was like Jean Valjean's 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread
