I know they have to offer huge salaries for surgeons because no one wants to live there. There has been an unfilled neurosurgeon position there for several years for almost a million dollars per year.

Have a friend who started, first year after head resident, at $700k in radiology there (umpteen years ago)...my dad's best friend is a retired (whole career in Alexandria) neurosurgeon. There's a gold mine for medicine there.
