Is everyone arguing for alcoholism to be a disease an alcoholic or have an alcoholic close to them?

Idiotic post deserves no real response. I won't take the bait, other than to say my dad devoted much of his life to recovery and getting well, while helping others to do the
same. It took guts and determination, plus help.
Sorry your dad had to spend so much time and effort not being drunk but that still means nothing in terms of it being a disease

It's a mental disorder with physical components. That's close enough to a disease for me. Like diabetes, you can do things to bring it on yourself, but also like diabetes, once you have it, you have to do things to bring it under control or suffer the consequences.
FWIW I have no dog in this fight. No one close to me is an alcoholic or addict, so I have no emotional attachment to the disease model. It just seems to fit as well as any other theory.

You mean people with actual experience with it? Unlike yourself?

Oh lord... are you one of those "you don't have experience with it so your opinion doesn't count" people?

As opposed to "I read about it once so I'm confident sharing my highly educated opinion?"

No ask in if I was on the street with nothing, I'd say it was the governments job to take care of me too.....
you know as in an example or how people in the situation make it seem far worse and far more important than it may actually be.

I'm sorry I don't want drunk losers telling me they have a disease just like my grandma with cancer because they need something to help them feel better about themselves.....

That was always my thought as well. Who the hell drinks a beer like that?
Sandman used to shotgun them for real.
Sandman used to shotgun them for real.

no, more like the "you don't have to experience something to form an opinion on it."

I was going to reply but Roger already covered it. Experience is what counts.

Theoretical experts, never afraid to voice their strong and incorrect opinion on social media for the world to see.
Knowledge and experience are kind of important if you want to be right.

Experience >. Opinionated a-hole
self proclaimed addict, can't control impulses is greater than just opinionated a-hole or is greater than anyone who isn't a self diagnosed addict? I think you meant, unless you are an addict and think it's a disease, your opinion is less than mine. I mean that's how you are portraying yourself.
