The CEO of Alaska Airlines said new, in-house inspections of the carrier's Boeing 737 Max 9 planes in the wake of a near-disaster earlier this month revealed that “many” of the aircraft were found to have loose bolts.

quote:

I’m more than frustrated and disappointed,” he said. “I am angry. This happened to Alaska Airlines. It happened to our guests and happened to our people. And — my demand on Boeing is what are they going to do to improve their quality programs in-house.”

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby said in a separate interview with CNBC on Wednesday that it is now contemplating a future for its fleet without the Boeing 737 Max 10, a newer version of the popular jet.

I find this hard to believe.

Safety wire is very common in that industry.

Maybe aircraft maintenance can answer this one but how often does a normal airliner need to have its bolts tightened?

Not that Boeing has a great track record lately but the famous DC 10 crash 40+ years ago was caused by maintenance trying to do work on the engine in an unapproved way that broke the goddamn wing. But the DC 10 got the blame and not the assholes fricking around with a forklift and a huge goddamn jet engine.

Could be that airline CEOs are smelling blood in the water and trying to get Boeing to lower prices.

"Hey there Boeing, your reputation is in the toilet and no one trusts your airplanes. But I might could be convinced to trust your airplane for a sweet deal."

Not on all bolts. In fact most bolts aren’t safety wired. The weight impact would be too high. A little loctite makes it hold. If these are really loose it’s an issue with assembly or maintenance.

They need to use those nylon insert lock tote nuts. Bolts don't tighten, nuts do. But those things would never get loose. Get some locktite red.

Where are the a holes who were trashing me earlier today?
I told you Management was searching for answers at Boeing.
And Boom … this story comes out. I also told you DEI is a problem there.
Will you believe that?
Probably not.
Are the two related?
Why take the risk?
This shite needs to stop before people die.

Boeing is eat up with DEI...has been for 15 years, this is a much bigger issue with inspections. They have programs that do self inspections.

I think they would be in serious trouble if it was just Commercial Airline side. The MIC is so strong, it prints money from Boeing. They even changed their bonus structure a few years back when they combined into all 1 Boeing. Before that the Military side was killing it while Commercial was struggling. That was when the 787 was so far behind schedule.

That and a trend in leadership that has reportedly moved away from pilots and engineers toward corporate, legal and stock types.

The corporate and legal types are the one who are pushing DEI.
