Cases like this are why I could never be a lawyer. I know this guy is court appointed so it's not like he just decided on his own to to defend these pieces of shite, he was chosen by some judge to do it.
One question I do have though, if you're a lawyer, can you decline a court appointment to defend someone based on your own personal convictions?

Technically you could. But let's dissect the circumstances. A judge who you practice before is personally asking you to take over the representation of some scum sucker in his court so that he doesn't have to deal with them grabassing around handling his own defense. Plus the Supreme Court saw fit to declare that every criminal defendant is due to have representation even if the taxpayers have to provide it - so someone has to do it.
So, in those circumstances can you really say no. Not really. If you do you better have a damn good reason - like you are a witness or something.

What if you told the judge that you honestly doubted you could remain in a room with them for more than a few seconds without grabbing the closest blunt object at hand and beating them to death with it?

You'd basically be saying you are unprofessional and unfit to practice law. Also not a great position to take.

And thus why I could never be a lawyer. I could not bring myself to defend these pieces of dog shite. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we live in a country where we all have the right to representation, I'm just saying I couldn't do it.

Unbelievable that adults could do that to a little girl. But then we also have people that support Planned Parenthood so I should not be shocked.

It's about a fair trial. Lawyers respect the law of the land and the right to a fair trial. Even if they firmly believe you are guilty, they are still there to make sure the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed.
As easy as it is to say they are guilty based on a media report, it's also easy for there to be some other evidence. Further, there are other elements at play that could affect the proper charge. Did the girl die from physical trauma? Was she ill prior to being beaten? Was this premeditated? Was there a third person involved? Are the mother and father mentally ill? Were the other children part of the abuse? Were the other children being abused?
A defense attorney makes sure that the charges brought against their clients are not worse than what they deserve.

Had a case like that down the road from here, last year. The dad decided he'd had enough of the baby crying, so instead of changing the diaper, feeding it, holding it, etc., he beat it in the head with a stick until it stopped crying. The kid lived, but is more-or-less a vegetable and isn't expected to make it to double digits. Of course, once the dad was locked up, the mom ran off with some other guy and dumped the kid with grandma. My wife and I saw her out at a local restaurant not too long ago, living it up, like nothing had happened and she didn't have anyone to care for.
There's got to be a special place in hell for these kind of people. One where they shove broken alcohol bottles in and out of their arse, use their balls for pinatas, play Ricky Martin non-stop, make them look at nude pictures of Abe Vigoda and Bea Arthur, and have pigs shite in the their mouth for eternity.

A large metal dome cut in half (think top half of small water tower). Place it over a heat source. Insert naked perps, then gradually turn up heat and have them pan seared alive......slowly. Gotta put both of them in there to have the sequence of events unfold in SAW fashion with them using the other to insulate them from the heat.

Cases like this really weigh on my heart and make me want to something, anything to help kids who are being abused. I've given serious consideration of joining BACA ( LINK) or maybe volunteering at a local abused kids center or something. What kills me is this innocent little girl laid out there on a dirty old mattress all night, hurting, scared, and she died alone. She needed someone to come help her. Nobody came though. I know I can't help this girl but if I can, I want to do whatever I can to help other kids who need help.

Oh dear god what I wouldn't give to be in control of the punishment for these pieces of shite. So many things I would want to do JUST to torture them. I would never let them bleed out, and I would never administer numbing medication when I wanted to patch them back up to torture them some more.

I have kids this age.
Makes me sick to my stomach.
I'm a Christian and I believe in God.
Stuff like this though sure makes me wonder about things.
The look in my children's eyes when I raise my voice bc they are acting up makes me feel like crap for doing it.
To physically abuse one that age like that is to me unimaginable.
I suppose I've lived a sheltered 37 year life.
Heartbreaking story.
Scum of the earth, they'll burn in hell.
