An Airman who disappeared from an Air Force Base in North Dakota 40 years ago is in custody of the U.S. Air Force after he was discovered last week living in Florida.

Jeffrey Michels, 64, was arrested Thursday on charges of desertion after he failed to report for duty at North Dakota’s Minot Air Force Base on July 6, 1977, WFTV reported.

That's pretty wild. Would love to hear more details about the "why" behind this.

They'll just discharge him now. Interesting, but not a big deal.

After 40 years you can lose the "double". That's just his life now.

I thought a double life was when you had two wives living an hour apart or something like that? Sounds like he was living a different single life.

He can easily be thrown in jail and it wouldn't surprise me. We picked up a deserted after 10 years. Dude became a truck driver, trying to provide for his mother and kids. The CG preferred court martial (I didn't agree, just wanted a bad conduct discharge) and now he's at Leavenworth.

His only punishment will probably be that he can't sign up for USAA. Dude is fricked for life without great rates.

He should be scourged and then thrown in prison for awhile.if it was a time of war, he should've been executed.
