I know it is petty, but I paid to be there until 12 and it felt like being rushed out. So I finished loading the car, shut the garage door back, and we went back inside and hung out for another 20 minutes and pulled out at exactly 12.
This might go slightly beyond petty. But I like it.

The Airbnb concept went from awesome to shitty in a hurry.

The first few years you could get great deals. It was mostly just random people trying to make a few extra bucks not people trying to run a business.

Now it's just the same price as a hotel with a lot of extra rules and restrictions. People began buying properties specifically to rent out. Whole thing became an industry but mom and pop.

I am a mom/pop, and why not make it a business. What’s wrong with that.

Christ on a cracker people are fricking trashy. Every AirBnB or rental cabin or whatever, that I’ve stayed in I always make sure I do the dishes, take out trash, and if I remember strip the bed. It takes less than 20 minutes and is just common courtesy before leaving. Then again, we (wife and I) do this at camps and vacation homes anyway so it just feels natural.

I’m the same way. I actually clean my hotel before I checkout. Trash in trash cans, surfaces wiped down with a wash cloth, towels in a pile, ect. I guess we were just raised right.

I get leaving a cup next to the sink or some tissue in the bathroom trash can, but is it seriously an issue with people leaving full trash cans and completely filthy kitchens?

I had a family for a 2 night stay 2 weeks ago. Of course they slipped in some friends. In the end 6 bags of garbage and uncleaned pots caked with food in the sink. I’m thankful for the ones that act dignified. Most return back for another stay.

That kinda justifies why a renter can easily remove the sheets It only takes 10 seconds.

If it takes a renter 10 seconds, how long does it take the maid?

Kind of like when one uses a towel to wipe up red wine or spaghetti sauce. You are renting a house with a kitchen. You should expect normal wear and tear and the costs to deal with it.

I’ll just remove the plates and the renter can buy paper plates. See how that works ?

And watch your reviews plummet and occupancy plummet. See how that works?

And personally, I strip the beds before leaving, eat out more than I do at home, and use a shite ton of paper plates because I dont want to do a lot of cooking/cleaning.

And I believe that is the disconnect. Renters expect a work free vacation and Landlords are frustrated their "investment" is more like a second job requiring work related tasks and time. If you are renting a house to the general public, you should not be surprised when they do general public things.

because it was cheaper.

The Air BnBs we stay at are more expensive than hotels. We usually stay at pretty nice homes.
