It’s just odd the way the article is written it’s as if nobody even realized where she was and nobody was trying to get her out. No family to even help get her home after her release.

I can envision a hypothetical where family members are deep into drug or alcohol abuse, or are wary of interacting with the justice system for their own reasons. Context clues lead me to believe this lady was toward the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, but that doesn't excuse what was done to her.

No it doesn’t. It’s just some questions I have

Perhaps we should first question the police who under sworn affidavit felt she matched the perpetrators and had probable cause to think she did it, only to have her public defender do their job for them.

This is a fantastic example of why qualified immunity should disappear yesterday. The officers involved should be paying her in damages but instead it will be the taxpayers footing their bills for them.

The wildest part of this is that could literally happen to anyone, where some distant police department can suddenly make anyone a suspect and issue a warrant for their arrest with little to no investigation.

I disagree. All cops ( sheriff, municipal, state, etc) are not professionals in law. That’s why they have to put an affidavit in front of a judge. They gather info and present it to someone with an elevated law degree to make a decision.

A “cop” isn’t the issue. We all agree most are dumb as shite. That’s why there are checks and balances. Qualified immunity argument only works if this was an on site probable cause arrest.

This wasn’t the case. A judge that sits the bench for the entire district signed an arrest warrant based off unproven evidence.

To me, it’s all on the judge

I agree there has to be more to the story. It says she was watching her grandkids when apprehended so who was the adult who watched them after she was taken away and why wasn't that adult able to follow up on what happened to her?

Do we know the unrelated charge that she was held on for 3 months before she was extradited?? Maybe she’s not perfect.

So she didn’t have a warrant in Tenn when they originally picked her up ?

was held on charge unrelated to the Fargo case. He added the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office was notified she would be extradited to North Dakota on October 20. Ten days later, Lipps was booked into the Cass County Jail.
