Wouldn't be the first time a legislature wrote a stupidly vague law.
That's the way this law has been interpretted in GA for years/decades.
A court isn't going to overturn that much precedence. The legislature is going to have to come in and rewrite the law.

Why should they have received parole?
Do most people who commit murder in GA get parole?
What makes this case worse than Wayne Williams?

shite the average prison sentence for murder in GA is about 10 years.
Likely mostly plea deals. They refused all plea deals and forced a trial. At that point, the sentence is either death or mandatory life (with a slight chance of parole).

With a chance of parole.
They still have to serve 30 years.
One guy did get the chance for parole.
The elder will die before 30 years is up, so it's kind of irrelevant.
The younger was convicted of felony murder and malice murder. He showed no remorse. He's not getting parole.

The answer is yes.
Please provide the statistics for that, thanks.

He was sentenced to two consecutive (not concurrent) life sentences for two murders (they were unable to charge him with the 18+ others). Sounds like they provided a sentence that was appropriate for the charges they could bring.

My point is how is the average citizen supposed to interpret these laws written like shite.
Are we expected to study case law for every situation we find ourselves in?
All this started because I said everything involved in this case is shite. The people and the laws.

For starters even the dumbest hoodrats rarely record their crimes and brag about it while getting a buddy in local government to run interference for them.
They chose a high profile trial and got run over by the train they should have seen comming down the tracks.

Felony or malice murder? I would think not.
2nd degree or manslaughter? Much more likely.

Neither of us know.
Show me the stats on parole being given to felony or malice murder convictions after trial in GA.

no previous track record of gun violence
Honestly, if someone shoots and kills someone unjustly, it shouldn't matter if they had no previous record of gun violence. That's not bringing back the life of the person that was killed. Is taking one life not serious enough?
So all that should matter is if evidence shows that they killed a person unjustly. If so, I see no issue in them losing their freedom for life for unjustly taking a life.

There you go. That wasn't hard.
10 years served is sufficient for second degree, which it was in most States.

But they weren't guilty of 2nd degree.
They are clearly guilty of a 1st degree murder.

GA has since overhauled its citizens arrest law pretty yugely.
Hit "Current Version" at top. It's been signed/enacted.
GA rev. citizens arrest

Like that stupid realtor who raped the girl on camera with the dirty cop and refused a plea deal. If you roll the dice at trial and lose, you should expect the hammer.

GA doesn't have degrees, and premeditation does play a role in whether its first or second in most places.
They are definitely stupid fricks who deserve time in prison though.

The judge didn't even have to drop the hammer. Life is automatic. The only discretion is potential parole.
I believe the prosecution has to seek the highest punishment (death), and they didn't in this case.
