Sherwood hospital is good for emergencies but I think we are going elsewhere for a vet due to this pricing. $600 for heart worm and updated shots. But that's still pretty high. Thought it was just shots

That's insane. I pay like $150 for shots and 6 months of Trifexis. Granted I have a smaller dog, but still.
Yep. Just checked my vet bill.
Shots last month were $73 total. She still had a few months of Trifexis left, so I didn't buy, but it isn't more than $80 for 6 months worth for her size.

There are different business models that they use. Some want that motel/La Quinta look and so they'll charge less but cut down on time per appointment with the goal of getting through more cases in a day. Others cater to the clients that want nice facilities and want a lot more face time while they're in the exam room but they have to pay for all of that extra. Good practitioners are found in both extremes and everywhere in between.
The part that is frustrating is when someone wants their vet to have latest equipment/top notch facility but wants to pay those rundown motel prices.

AVS is good, but it's like the Earl K. Long of vet clinics. They don't take appointments (at least they used to not take appointments) and, unless you want to go during your work hours, be prepared top spend a bit of time in the waiting room. Then, if you live on the southern end of the parish, be prepared to enjoy the LONG drive down Airline Highway to get home. I finally transferred all of my pets to Kleinpeter on Barringer-Foreman. They're not cheap, but my vet appointments are no longer a half-day affair.

I don't understand this. I've never had to wait more than 10 min, and even then I was told the vet was consulting on an emergency or some other urgent/important matter. I'm never in there longer than an hour either. And with three large dogs, that seems like a feat in itself.

You're lucky. Every time I've gone there after work or on a Saturday it's been agonizing. However, I've been there at 0900 and have zipped in and zipped out. It all depends on what time you go. The worse part for me is dealing with Airline Highway after work.

Brett Berryhill over at Staring Plaza

I go in the mornings. One of the pleasures of working evenings/nights is that I have the majority of the weekday morning for errands.

That's who we use. Unless there's a specific reason to see the vet, we just drop our girl off in the morning before work for "daycare" and they see her during the day, call us with any relevant info we need to know, and I pick her up on the way home. It's very much worth the extra $15 for the day charge.

Paula Drone in Drusilla Shopping Center. She has a small, but affordable and nicely run clinic.
It is called Animal Ark Vet Clinic.

Taking my pup to dr Waguespack at Siegen Animal tomorrow for his first shots
I used to use him but he didn't even pretend to care about my dogs or act like cared if I understood what was going on.
All Pets Hospital on Perkins is the shite.

Yeah, I loved Highland Road Animal Hospital because I always saw the same vet and he was incredibly easy to talk to. Listen to concerns and address them. That's important.

Village Animal Clinic on Oakdale right off of Perkins. Great prices and I really like the vet.

I went to Highland once...I was going to continue to use them because it was a nice facility.
I needed to board my dogs once and they had no room. All Pets Hospital had availability and was just as nice of a facility, but the employees and pricing were better.

Yeah, Highland is pricey. I used them because they were right down the road.
