One of the main criticisms of AEW is how it is almost all in ring based wrestling with little time spent on promos, storylines, and non wrestling scenes.

Both these talented women have been on the show before. Shida is in the top-5.

Cody is basically saying they get wrestlers over on AEW via 30 minute spot fest matches with multiple false finishes and several kick outs of finishing moves.

This is fine if you are a hardcore wrestling mark who primarily cares about work rate but if not why are you supposed to care about AEW talent?

AEW needs to do a better job of the talent connecting to the audience with their personalities. Simply being on TV and having spot fest matches with many false finishes won't do anything in the long run.

Your wrestling has too much wrestling?

A Rhodes believes in matches with a shite ton of false finishes? Shocker.

Big Dust has to be smiling up in heaven wearing his polka dots hearing that.

They need to give the audience a reason to care about the wrestlers in the ring. A lot of wrestlers connecting with the audience is developing a character. There has been little character development. Most of the characters and gimmicks on AEW's roster are "Wrestler who is really passionate about wrestling".

AEW should take a page from the Mae Young Classic. There was a lot of wrestling, but a lot of interviews and such as well so we at least knew who the participants were.

Game of Bones is better written than Game of Thrones season 8.

All the false finish stuff is a recipe for disaster. It killed the AWA and Crocket Promotions. WCW used that tactic to drag storylines out instead of letting things end in the ring. See the NWO and years of DQs as opposed to building a star to unseat Hollywood Hogan.

AEW is a flash in the pan, and will not last. First because you can't build a promotion on the backs of some spot monkeys, but mainly because they just don't have the talent.

WWE has 30 or 40 guys who could credibly carry the world, NXT, and universal titles. AEW has 5 guys who could really be a world champion, and a shitton of mid carders.

I just cant get into the AEW style of matches. Especially the Young Bucks. Their matches are basically spot, kickout, superkick, kickout, spot, kickout, spot, kickout, finisher, kickout, finisher, kickout

I mean how many superkicks and finishers can you kick out of. It makes no sense from a kayfabe perspective

I say this as a lifelong wrestling fan who grew up in the Carolinas on WCW/NWA: wrestling doesn't work in today's society. The internet and social media have killed it. Back in the day, you knew it was scripted, but you didn't know everything about the business and the wrestlers. So when the Rock N Roll Express fought the Midnight Express, you could believe Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson hated Bobby Eaton, Dennis Condrey, Stan Lane and Jim Cornette. With kayfabe dead, you can spend all day watching shoot promos of wrestlers exposing the tricks and trades of the business, which makes the suspension of disbelief near impossible.

I agree with this. WWE needs to bring kayfabe back. Needs to massively scale back the social media prescence

I mean this not as a cutdown, but an honest suggestion:

You should go get on the wrestling subreddit if you want to talk about this.

No one here likes it and you are just going to get made fun of and not get to discuss the thing you like.

Some WWE stars need to scale back their social media presence because it makes them insufferable (ie Seth Rollins), but it will not be possible to bring kayfabe back.
