Advice needed before scheduling dentist appointment

I suspect I need a root canal done on my 2nd to last molar (upper right). I do not want to have the tooth removed. I am planning on making an appointment to see a dentist later this month. I do not have any dental insurance. I do have enough cash to cover the cost of the root canal and crown. What I am wondering is if there are any private dental plans that are worth taking a look at and purchasing before I go see a dentist that will help lower the cost/cover a portion of the dental procedure. If not, I'll just pay completely out of pocket. If anyone does have any private dental plan recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it if you'll tell me a little about them.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Arkansas fan? Let that thing fall out. You’ll fit right in.

Most plans have a waiting period (6months for basic , 12 months for major) so that will probably not help you out. Call around and get prices and see if anybody will work with you, in the meantime, Advil works best for the pain.

Tl:dr- I don't recommend delta dental.

Regular dentist may not be able to it, may have to send you to a specialist. Depends on the tooth/root.

Idk about a waiting period, but check out this site:

I was considering a supplemental plan a while back. Never found one I liked, but you may find something.

I have had a root canal on the exact same tooth
My previous employer switched to a self insured health and dental plan and I literally got the root canal within 2-3 days of receiving my dental card. It was covered because I guess the plan was that great with a $5000 max a year for dental per person on the plan. I looked into my now employer's dental plan and they won't cover a root canal (major procedure) until I've been covered for 12 months. With a $1,500 max per year per. I elected to not get the coverage for dental and guess what? That same tooth is starting to act up. I'm probably going to have to get it worked on, again, in the next few months. Some weeks I don't even notice or feel it. Other times I have to lean on OraGel to get through the night
Even with the previous mentioned dental insurance, it cost me ~$500 out of pocket for the root canal and crown. I went to an Endodontist and had to sign a waiver basically stating that root canals are not 100% and they're not liable if they are not successful. Go figure I mean you've got me numbed up to hell and back, might as well have gone to the brain to make sure to get all the root out but that wouldn't be logical I suppose

You can always go to a dental teaching university and get it done a lot cheaper. But you will get a student learning how to do the procedure. But they will be watched by the teacher as they do it.

every dentist I know says this is the best option (savings account) unless insurance is provided by your employer

This is a good idea but Arkansas doesn't have a dental school. OP could drive to Memphis and go to the University of Tennessee dental school.

Get a recommendation for an endodonist. They are specialists in root canals. Make an appointment, meet with the doctor, then if comfortable with them doing the procedure, tell him/her you'll be paying in cash (bills) and would like an estimate. It will likely be discounted a good bit.

My advice would be take care of your teeth and then you won't need root canals.

Plans won't go into effect day 1 for root canal and crown.
