I’m in my late 20s and I am prescribed. I had a prescription for a bit when I was a kid and just didn’t like it. Coming out of Covid shutdowns, it was a struggle to get back to focusing as I had lost my routine. For better or worse, my old doc wrote me an ext release script.
ADD/ADHD meds get a lot of shite, and rightfully so because they are over prescribed to people who don’t need them, but I can speak for myself and say that I have had nothing but a positive experience since I renewed my prescription. It helped pretty much every aspect of my life from work, marriage, and social life. Increased energy, focus, and attentiveness have spilled over into all aspects of my life for the better. For example, I’m normally the type that drifts somewhere else in my head when someone talks for more than 5 seconds at a time. I now pay attention and am actively responding to people much more often which has made me feel better about social interactions.
It’s certainly not for everyone and I really have no idea if I’m really the type of person that is supposed to take it. But, it’s been a positive for me and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

ADHD is made up, not real. It’s a damn excuse.

I definitely have it.
I got put on Wellbutrin to quit smoking. I was unbelievably focused during this time.
Unfortunately, I was allergic to it and had to get off of it after two weeks. They switched my medication and it wasn’t the same.
I would have stayed on it the rest of my life if I could.

quote:My husband truly believed this until he moved in with me. Now he 100% realizes it is my life and something I have zero control over. I do not like being medicated at all. I have had a lot of success with an ADHD counselor who taught me list making, calendars, reminders, routines and habits (like always putting items in the same place so they do not get lost), etc. I also found a career that is not monotonous and hired an assistant. I have two adult children with it as well, one takes medication and one has worked on all the coping skills. The one who is not medicated actually does a lot better in life than the other (in all aspects except money because they have very similar jobs and pay). Exercise regularly also takes the edge off and helps you focus better during the day.

ETA: now that I went back and read the other part of the thread I totally lost it at the guy whose friends go on beer runs and end up at the reptile store. That is totally me and my child (which is alot of the reason we hate medications - boring city).
Adderall makes me go to sleep as does Albuterol for my asthma which hypes others up. Three cups of coffee and I am a little calmer for a while. I was diagnosed as a child but my mom was a no medication hippie so I had ok grades and serious behavior problems. She did put me on a super clean diet though. I have no idea if that helped. I was retested as an adult to get medication (Vyvanse did work well for me also) and the impulse control portion of the computerized test actually made my doctor chuckle. I have zero impulse control. Using a remote control is enough to make people say wtf because I push buttons before I should ALOT.

t’s a little tougher and costly these days to find doctors who prescribe ADHD meds. I went to a general doctor in BR
You can go to Livingston Parish to get the "generic" version

Had a co-worker with this. I once approached her with a question (she was in charge of a project) and I counted 7 times she got distracted before finishing her answer with me. 20 minutes.

I'm happy for you. This opinion means you've never had to deal with mental illness with anyone in your life. Ignorance is bliss.

Didn’t expect to see this thread again but this is demonstrably false. It would probably be accurate to say it’s over-diagnosed and diagnosed incorrectly at a higher clip than many psychiatric disorders though.
