I pay $1,350/yr. for $1,000,000 (term). I'm 48, non-smoker, hypertension, 5'11, 178 lbs. I was worried that I'd have trouble getting another policy when this one runs out in a few years, but my agent keeps me up to date on things. I forget what the specifics are, but I can lock in another 10-15 years without much increase.

always get term life insurance. invest the difference and you wont' need the insurance when you are 63 and up.

most insurance reps that i've come across get more commission on whole life or universal life policies. that should tell you something right there. they are bad "investments".

Is this a joke, or is this to stagger cost and ease up the age/cost ladder?

Jesus.

I thought I did good reading this thread until that. Wonder if there is a catch? Or maybe that math works out to basically what I got.

I'm 29 and got 1,000,000 for 30 years at $219 every 3 months, or $876 a year with USAA (non-military).

I tend to agree with this line of thinking.

We were quoted $67/month for 500k for 30 years covering both of us. So that's averaging $390/year per person.

Eta; Those are the 2 lowest quotes I've seen for 500K at 30 years.

How's term a scam?

How's about you take your punk arse universal/ whole life pushing BS back to whoever screwed you in the first place.

I went with a $750k 30 yr term through met life. Costs about $112/month. I figure that by the time it runs out all my notes should be paid off and my kids will be out of college and on their own. At that point i shouldn't need a large policy.

Went with the same thinking. I got a $1 million term policy when I was in my 30’s and got married and was getting ready to have my son. Figured that would cover my sons upbringing if I was to die and not put my wife in a bind. When I hit 60 my term policy runs out. By that point I should have enough or almost enough for me and my wife to retire. If I was to die the day after it expires, well there’s enough retirement money for her to definitely retire and take care of any more bills for my son. And it was a lot cheaper than a whole life policy.

Just ran a quote for u thru Farm Bureau.
500k 30 yr level term at standard non-tobacco rate:
33, male $86/mo
31, female $65/mo

But u could qualify for a preferred rate that would lower that premium.

My advice is to get term and convert to Whole

Thank you for not throwing out your lowest number. I think my weight will keep me out of preferred rates.

Not necessarily- the weight requirements are pretty generous. It's really HDL, blood pressure that keep people out of preferred

At 63 you shouldn't need life insurance. Your kids will be in their 30s and you will be coasting into retirement. Unless you don't plan on saving for retirement...
