I don't think I've stayed in a hotel more than 3 or 4 days, so therefore I've never tipped the housekeepers. I usually put the 'Do Not Disturb' placard on the door, so they would only clean my room on my last day and I tend to pick up after myself.

Most places I've stayed charge a 'resort fee' which includes housekeeping, so that is why I don't tip.

At one hotel in Colorado, one of the housekeepers stole the tip from the actual housekeeper who would have cleaned the room that day. She knew I left tips and would sneak in before the real housekeeper for the floor showed up. I'm pretty sure this happened more than once at other hotels.

Whoever's the first person in the room will take the money. Its best to leave it with the front desk

Thats not what a resort fee is for.

You're right. My mistake, but I have stayed in hotels that only clean once or twice a week and charge you for it. I think it was an Extended Stay America.

Like someone posted earlier, if they are getting paid a decent wage, and not a server's wage, then I don't think a tip is required. Not like I'm going to tip the front desk person for checking me in efficiently.

Why does the bartender who hands you a beer deserve a tip well the person who puts an entire meal together at McDonald’s doesn’t?

Tradition. I wouldn't tip a bartender if it wasn't expected.

Because I want one to pour my bourbon and splash of water correctly, and 'puts an entire meal together' is well...what?

They make minimum wage or more. No tip from me.

Agree. No tip for them or people that cut my hair or park my car or clean my fish after catching some specs/reds or for bartenders (because they make a helluva lot more than minimum wage every night) or someone that picks up/cleans golf clubs. Screw them. Oh wait, I actually tip all of them because they provide a service to me and have to deal with people like you.

As for the cleaning people, I usually put it on the table the first night because they don't check the fridge the first night. And, I usually tip $10 on the first night, so they don't dig through my stuff the rest of the trip. I don't stay anywhere near the 300 plus nights the OP does, but I stayed in hotels over 100 nights last year and never had a thing stolen the entire year. And had numerous items, including my wallet with cash in it, returned to the front desk after I checked out.

I tip servers at restaurants very well. Same for bartenders. Same for valets, private drivers and anyone who carries my luggage. I tip well for Uber and Shipt. I tip for room service.

I’ve never tipped for housekeeping. I don’t tip my mailperson. I don’t tip my trashpeople. I don’t tip policemen or firemen, nor do I donate to them because I pay a lot of taxes.

Anyone else who wants a tip can suck my dick.

Has been so far. Always check the way my stuff is folded or placed in my bag or drawers before I leave. May not help, but it provides me with peace of mind and that's money well spent.
