I think about it all the time. Other than Monroe, Baton Rouge is my least favorite place I've lived. It just doesn't have much to offer.

I actually liked Monroe better than BR.

I moved there straight out of college, I may have a different view now. It is probably somewhat similar to BR.

If you're conservative, Hoover, Alabama, is a great place to live. I love it here. You won't find better schools in many areas.

If not, I take it back. Alabama sucks. The entire state. Stay away.

I wish I would have moved out right out of college. Not Texas though like all these other baws. Someplace like Maine, New Hampshire, Colorado, North Cali. If you're young enough just move first then worry about employment when you get there. It'll all work out in the end.

Tampa (actual downtown Tampa) is booming, and will see a ton of growth the next decade. The Rays are trying to find a downtown spot there. Add them to the Lighting and you have a fun area. I have been trying to talk the wife into moving.

Tampa had been very good to me. Plenty to do, decent infrastructure and reasonable home prices.

Did it 5 years ago and never looked back.

We come home twice a year to visit family, and they/friends will fly out sporadically throughout the year to see us.

Long term--like for your grand kids--I think perhaps Australia.

For the first time in my life--and I lived through the sixties--I am worried about the stability of the USA. Identity politics is dividing this country like I have never seen it.

It is abundantly clear that our values are not what they used to be and that by encouraging multiculturalism, as noble as that may sound, we have if fact encouraged the proliferation of values that are inferior to what we had even 20 years ago.

Unfortunately I have too many family obligations and am too old to easily get a permanent visa to migrate.

Get out bud and experience life. Don't want to be on your deathbed wishing you had done and seen more. I love my family back in LA as much as anyone and miss them all the time but it doesn't outweigh my desire to experience new things in new places. I actually moved back home to LA in 2013 to have my wife/kids close to our extended family and to pursue a job opportunity. Turns out that we got so used to a better overall quality of life here in ATL that we actually missed it more we were living in BR. We ended up moving back to ATL last yr, I started a new business and things are great. Kids are in awesome public schools and business is growing. We have an office in Savannah now so I get to spend time there. Spent a weekend in Nashville two weeks ago for a professional conference and just got back from Charleston an hour ago after a few days with a client. We're about to start some work there so I'll get to be there pretty often...which is amazing because it's on of my favorite places. Such a stark difference to what I'd be doing if we still lived in LA. The only thing I really miss is killing ducks and marsh fishing but I'll still be to do a fair amount of that since I'm self employed and have more flexibility to go when it turns on.

Life is short, so be bold and take some chances. If you never put yourself in uncomfortable situations I don't think you can ever truly learn what you're capable of and how far you can go.

The school issue would certainly make me consider it. We're lucky in Monroe that we have some good public schools, you just have to make sure you're in the right school zone (there is certainly really bad ones and the Monroe School Board is a dysfunctional mess).

Nashville is lacking on jobs/economy.

One of the best things about the city is its diverse economy - health care, financial services, automotive manufacturing, education, and the entertainment industry (to a degree).

Nashville is also an intriguing area

My sister moved herself and her 8 year old girl to Franklin in 2013, and she hasn't regretted it for a second. It would take a hefty sum to get her back down here.

With an 8-year-old, why leave Williamson County to step foot back in any Louisiana parish?

I'm with you. The company I work for has a few projects in the Nashville area, and a bunch of stuff around Houston and Katy. We also have a bunch of stuff all over Florida. I love where we are now, close to family, but my son is almost 3. I feel like if we're going to make a move, I need to do it in the next couple years.

Can't speak for 225. However. as soon as my son graduates high school I am leaving 318. For damn sure. Shittiest roads in America bar none. But dey want dem tax monies. And absolutely nothing to do. Unless you are a doctor or lawyer you won't make a decent living.

The only place I could go and still make the same money I make here is Texas, and I really don't want to move there. So unless my wife gets a stellar job opportunity somewhere else I'm stuck.

I'm currently getting things in line to move out of state. BR has changed in the last few years and I just don't enjoy living in this area.
I've been putting money aside every month so I can get out. Looking at the decisions being made, this area is crumbling.
Jackson 2.0 for sure.
