Your OP was all about the HIGHEST priced trim level F-150, so if people are on tight budgets or living paycheck to paycheck, thats why Ford still makes a base model in the $27k range without all the extra gadgets and high end features included.

To be fair, the OP said “starting MSRP” for the highest trim.
Add a few options and you are at 49

It doesn't. Too big to fail.

A more telling example would be to compare today's XLT to a Lariat from 8 years ago. A 2018 XLT is going to have more features, but will not have leather.
I don't think it's fair to compare a truck with massaging seats to one that may not even have a backup camera.

Maybe so? I just took a "broad" look at this ... I don't have time to look deeper. But on the surface, pricing for new vehicles is insane compared to the lack of savings for most Americans today. Loan terms are increasing and debt is increasing and soon to be gone are the days of 0 % interest.
It's a bad combination.

Stop trying to ruin OP's thread with logic.
ETA: the 2010s had back up cams, though.

People are idiots.
I paid cash for 2 out of our 3 cars. The other one I put 50% down.
On average, I paid more than $5,000 dollars less than asking price and haven't paid more than $25,000 for any of them.
Gotta know what to buy, when to buy it and not be afraid to walk away. Believe me, somebody will sell you the car you want at the price you want.
Patience, grasshopper.

I think the numbers are in a normal range. Outliers are usually thrown out with this type of data gathering.

Sorry i hijacked. I completely understand the point of your thread and i do i agree. Its getting absurd.

I want your car for $1. I'm willing to walk away and wait. Let me know when it's ready.

You do realize that the OP stated "starting MSRP at 46" and you're arguing that because yours had a higher MSRP that he's wrong.
Generally when one says "starting at" it means that the number could go higher.

It's probably more accurate to compare the lowest price models instead of the highest. Ford and every other auto maker have so many different high in models it hard to compared apples to apples. The work truck however are still comparable and from the looks of it, those prices have stay near the inflation rate.
That being said, trucks are more expensive because they are more concerned about the monthy note than the overall price of the truck. You can get 84 month financing on these things now.

Nice write up. However, I think it would be a better comparison to look at the bottom part of the price range as there are more new tech "bells and whistles" that could be applied to the top of the line.

I don’t really see the auto bubble bursting soon.. The people buying these expensive trim vehicles are probably making decent enough money. But most are likely woefully under saving for retirement and helping contribute to the imminent retirement crisis.

Paying cash doesn’t usually make the most financial sense, but feel free to keep calling people idiots.

The base Honda Accord costs more than what we paid for a top of the line 4-cyl model (EX-L)

And what 1990s model Accord are you comparing price to?

Thats not bad. Good work. I hate that cars are set at a price like most other things.
