A Shreveport Legend

Does anyone remember the reign of former Shreveport police chief George D'Artois, his corruption, his bigotry against blacks, and his single minded crusade against "one armed bandits" (slot machines)?

Figured this was about Mr. Woodard that passed away today. Played baseball at LSU and LaTech back in the 40s I think - A great Louisiana man that will be missed.

My memories of Shreveport include Hammels', some cool bike shop next to a bridge, and a ghetto water park called "Watertown".

Hammel park was my first "theme park". It did have a roller coaster.
I remember going to the mall in the south end of town.

Man hamels was awesome. The roller coaster is still operating today. It's just in Omaha. It's the only roller coaster in the state of Nebraska apparently.

Wasn't he accused of ordering a hit on a Baton Rouge reporter?

You remember well. He died on the operating table, during open heart surgery, while the investigation was going on.

Before it was ghetto, some friends and I rolled in there drunk (early 80's) and were picked to judge the bikini contest by Bill Hanna. You wouldn't believe the questions we asked and somehow didn't get asked to leave.
