At the time, it was like a $200/semester difference between A/C and non-A/C. At the time (mid 80's), that seemed like A LOT of money.

Exactly!

Kirby Smith Hall was an architectural eyesore. The campus will be prettier without it. Same with the Middleton Library.

It was a time of just being functional and cheap. I’m not sure we have recovered from that era yet.

Middleton Library? Ugly? I loved that library! They had ancient books, ancient text books. I learned that buying the text books that the Professor said was required was a scam. Guess what? The Professor has taught the same course over and over, and he uses his original text book for the exam questions!

Talk about libraries? When I lived in Los Angeles, I went to UCLA's engineering library for a technical periodical. Compared to LSU's library, it sucked! The tables were delaminated, and were coated with shiney polyurethane to prevent splinters. The book cases were bare metal, and came from a hardware store. I checked Loyola Marymount's which was very very nice, but they didn't have the periodical. Loyola's tuition is $59,990 a year. I was afraid of checking out USC because USC is surrounded by bad gang lands.

nope, not at LSU's dorms, but he would have fit right in, and not get into trouble for dressing the deer in the shower stall. He wouldn't have lost his Marines scholarship, and wouldn't have gone and shot up the campus student body. UTA just wasn't a good fit for him. LSU would have been a great fit.
