The head adds to the flavor and taste of beer.
Unfortunately, most commercial American beers have no taste so nothing is lost.
What is even sadder is that a lot of beer drinkers hate the head. I mean who doesn't like a little head?

The worst is ordering a nice Pale Ale and having barkeep pull out a frozen mug. Then proceed to waste beer until the glass warms up and starts pouring properly.

You don't; that's the point.
Your stomach can handle it much better once poured into a glass or cup.

Makes sense but that god damn foam takes forever to break up and it pisses me off when I take a swig and get foam all over my upper lip and the tip of my nose.
