9 year old girl dies after being stabbed in the neck in Slidell

SLIDELL, La. — A 9-year-old girl died after she was stabbed in the neck early Tuesday morning at her Slidell-area residence, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

Shortly after 1 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Channel Bend in Slidell in reference to a child who had been cut on her neck.

According to the sheriff, when deputies arrived family members informed them the child had been injured and was unresponsive.

Deputies rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, at which time, the child was transported via ambulance to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff.

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston has identified the child as Ariel Scott.

Scott, who would have turned 10 in October, underwent an autopsy on Tuesday, according to Preston.

Preston has ruled the cause of death was sharp trauma (stab wound) to her neck. The manner of death is homicide, according to Preston.
